Great place to visit. We went on a weekday (Wednesday) and it was virtually empty. The history of Thessaloniki laid out in chronological order. My only complaint was that the museum shop didn't have any guides in English.

One realizes the centrality of Thessaloniki to the history of today's Greece and beyond. It makes the city one of Europe's best kept tourism secrets.

Thessaloniki was the second most important city of the byzantine empire. Despite the catastrophe of the 20th century the feeling of the significance of the city is seen everywhere in the city center. The museum provides a trip back in time to visitor.

The restaurant of the museum is just amazing. A very classy place to have diner, the food is delicious. I recommande the mushrooms risotto, it's awesome! And the service is very professional and the welcoming really warm.
