A collection of art and artifacts from the Byzantine era. Well-displayed with great contextual info in English. Circular ramp up the building makes for a nice flow. A few too many ceramic pots, but an excellent collection of icons--many of which I believe were part of a special exhibit. So so gift shop, and bathroom facilities were down two flights... More

The museum may give you a good idea about the Byzantium empire and its glory times. The building itself is a modern interpretation of the Byzantium style, they say. Plan a visit if you are in Thessaloniki and have some free time.

When you visit Thessaloniki regardless of the permanent or the periodic exhibition, regardless of your interest in Byzantine culture it's worth paying a visit to this specific museum. Thessaloniki's greater past is related to Byzantine times and a visit to this museum will help you understand the historic circumstances and give you a clearer and more vivid picture of the... More

Very important landmark of the city. The guide provides a rundown of the history of the museum which is quite enlightening to visitors for this city. The artifacts are attractive and provide a glimpse of rich cultural heritage of the town.

I admit i love the building more than the museum itself. Made by the architecy Krokos, it employs unique combination of materials, concrete and bricks are out to be seen rather then hidden. The museum shop is also worth visiting and for sure have a coffee at the Bita cafe.

This is a must-see for visits to Thessalonika. The wide range of exhibits are very well displayed and range widely from beautifully preserved mosaics and paintings to restored decorated tombs, architecture, and a wide range of artefacts. The museum is centrally located and very easily accessible. Well worth the entrance fee.

The museum has some beautiful and interesting exhibits spread over a number of floors including wonderful mosaics and religious icons. my only complain would be that the rooms are too spread out with endless walking up ramps.

We sent an hour here this July, which in retrospect was too short. The museum is very well curated and has many interesting and unusual exhibits. The layout and presentation is fairly conventional, and the museum is compact enough to not overwhelm you. Good for a couple of hours, and a must visit if you are in Thessaloniki.

If you have time, not miss it. There are several rooms and one has precious objects from a private collection such as icons and old printed materials about the monasteries of Mount Athos.

The evolution of the Byzantine art and culture from the 4th to the 19th century is very well explained.
