Not Much To See

This museum is only one room with some artefacts found on the island, these are good to see but there isn't an awful lot to see.

In fact just one large room with a small and not very interesting collection. The centre of the room is filled with some frescoes. The rest is maily filled with some pieces of pottery. Actually the building itself is more interesting than the collection it contains. Entrance fee is only 2 euro, so if you have some half hour left... More

Placed in an old mosque in the center of the city, the Byzantine museum is rather small, but its collections are presented in a very modern and visitor-friendly way. The texts are extremely informative, so please take your time and read them. The frescoes from several churches across the island are simply breathtaking in their beauty. One understands immediately that... More

Situated in a former mosque, the museum is in fact one (big) room. Mainly religious orientated. Good time bars in English concerning history of Chios.

The Byzantine Museum has now moved into the beautifully refurbished mosque in the central square of Chios Town. The collection is quite small, but beautiful. The highlight has to be the very early frecoes (removed from local churches for preservation) and icons. There are also some lovely architectural fragments and early gravestones. We were warmly welcomed by the custodian. He... More

We managed to get to the entrance lobby in the museum. We peaked into the room behind and saw it covered with various historical works of art. It was definitely an appealing sight. Unfortunately, the 3 staff members in the entrance did not understand the concept of "service" (public employees... surprise surprise). The man behind the ticket desk was chatting... More
