Experience the unique joy of traveling along a railway line in your own powered self-drive railway vehicle, called a RailCruiser. The RailCruiser is a fully automated, state of the art petrol-electric four seat self-drive railway vehicle, with comfortable seats and unobstructed views. It is fitted with clear drop down waterproof sides. Departing from Mamaku Railway Station travel 10km through a majestic 1000 year old native forest, past rolling pastures with views out over Lake Rotorua to Tarukenga Railway Station. After a short break at Tarukenga whilst the RailCruisers are turned, you return in your RailCruiser back to Mamaku. Cruising along at 20km/hr, you can listen to the audio tour. This is the ultimate way to experience a railway.

Something different to do on our big day out in Rotorua. I loved going through the native bush and alongside lush farmland. Spring is an ideal time to do it. Plenty of colour, fresh green fields, bright yellow broom and splashes of white clematis in...More

Your big chance to drive on the railway line and not be breaking the law. Actually the vehicle (takes 5) is computer controlled from Mamaku Station but one of the passengers is in charge of the "handbrake" and it feels like you are in charge....More

We were only in Rotorua for a couple of days and rang Railrcruisers on the off chance that there would be availability the next day. The team at Mamaku offered a 9am start which fitted in with our plans perfectly. We had a briefing on...More

We visited here today and this is the best attraction we have visited or down in Rotorua to date. Really enjoyable. Recommend to all young and old.

This is a very unique experience. Cars completely designed and manufactured in NZ despite the cars being about to be made far cheaper overseas. Great commentary and all weather proof.

There are several trips now available, but to travel through native bush with views over lake Rotorua in a driverless rail buggy has to beat them all. The automated commentary where the gps is used to trigger the messages as well as govern speed is...More

This is a very must do attraction, the attendant 'Dodgie' was so helpful and pleasant. The rail cars were so much fun with the onboard commentary. Suitable for all weather for groups for four or less.
