Great exhibit with many of the engines open to enter inside. Friendly and helpful staff. Dont miss the steam train ! We came by car to the museum but you can also take the steam train from Gävle C. We took it back and forth and the kids loved it. 20 min total. Friendly staff. Great exhibit with many of... More

As evber we were out of deason and some of exhibits are closed up (you can peer through the windows of the coaches etc). This is a great museum with most of labelling in english and very informative. You don't have to be a train buff to enjoy this museum, my wife isn't especially into railway museums but she enjoyed... More

We spent our holidays in a Swedish cottage and travelled to Gävle especially for visiting this museum. It gives an excellent impression of Swedish rail way history with many historical locomotives and coaches, everything in excellent condition. During summer time you can also take a rail bus to a depot with many more items to see including an original three... More

Very nice place to take the family. Very good for children and lots to see if you are train fan. You will have a nice day if you decide to visit.

Very complete museum, though I expected more trains outside, considering the amount of trains we find in Lulea's Museum, which is kept by volunteers. A lot of information to read, available both in Swedish and English, also nice if you have kids. The outside area is also very nice, and you should bring food, and eat outside, while you look... We were visiting Gavle (Gävle) to see the infamous goat and thought to go to the train museum to fill out the day. We were not disappointed. The museum is about a 30 minute walk south of the main train station on Muréngatan. The tourist office can provide a map and there are signs. You go through some allotments and... More

A good place to visit for all ages. Sweden's largest collection of steam locomotives nicely presented. Kids will enjoy seeing these and also a small farm house (allergy-safe wooden natural sized cows, pig and hen). If you're in luck, take a ride with the miniature train that's located in a beautiful area of the park.

Highly interesting museum for all ages. The exhibition gives a great overview of railroad history in Sweden and is very carefully curated. Special highlights are the theater play and the rail bus ride to the external depot. Unfortunately, some parts of the exhibition were cordoned off and under construction during our visit.

The museum is smaller than I expected, but the quality of the exhibits is good, and there are some real gems. Don't miss the complementary trip on a 40's vintage train every hour to the old depot where even more old engines and cars are displayed. There is also a miniature railway for kids that seemed very popular. The cafe... More
