Not so much a county museum as a museum about the 17th-century warship Kronan. 4 floors of exhibitions where the top floor is mainly a restaurant, the 1st floor - the entrance and shop, the 2nd-floor playground and temporary exhibitions and then the absolute highlight on the 3rd-floor - The warship Kronan. Nicely displayed, signs in Swedish and, a bit... More

If you haven't been here before then maybe go. You can see remanings from the vessel " Kronan". The exhibitions feels a bit out of date. Not sure if they would be interesting enough for young kids and not appealing for grown ups either really

This museum has a delightful exhibit on the prolific Swedish painter Jenny Nystrom. Her family willed her entire collection of work, and many artifacts of her life, to the museum. She popularized the Swedish Tomten elf with her charming book and card illustrations. There's a very nice illustrated book about her, in English, in the shop. There are also a... More

If you've been watching "The Vikings" on TV you will know of a massacre on Oland in 500AD at present experts are excavating the site and the 'finds' are on display-skeletons, swords, glass beads and much more. The 'Kronan' display and video is excellent and again, uniforms, and ropes and many other fragile (and not so fragile cannons) items which... More

Most of the exhibition is about an old war ship (Regalskeppet Kronan) which sank 1th of June 1676. There are plenty of artefacts around, and you will get to know the whole story quite well without being exhausted. All ages will gain from a visit here. You will also find some information about an old settlement at Oeland (Sandby borg)... More

This museum is great for both young people, with experiences like it is real, and the older generation who is interested in our history. They have a great café at the fourth floor, which is "The Café of the year 2016", really nice area with a Amazing view over the Kalmarsund water.

Look back on naval life as it was 430 years ago, see the difference between officers and deck hands. And look back 100 years to see how our "Jultomte" or "Weihnachtsmann" was created by the skilled hand of Jenny Nyström. And the last excavations in "Sandby Borg" where people were slaughtered 1000 years ago. Visit the excellent café with home... More

This museum focuses on artifacts recovered from the wreck of the warship Kronan (1676). The museum displays artifacts from other aspects of Kalmar's history, but Kronan is the focus for sure. The museum is laid out well, and has displays in Swedish and English, and even has some interactive stuff for younger visitors. This is a great museum to visit... More

This is a MUST if you are visiting Kalmar! The best part is Kronan, wich is an exhibition about the ship wich sunk not too far away from Kalmar. Real parts from the ship, with Swedens biggest money collection from a wreck can be found here. Good for grown ups AND kids. Fun way of learning. Great atmosphere with a... More
