There´s a large room with glass objects through history, all the way back to ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome. More unique perhaps is the large and beautifully exhibited unique pieces from around Smaaland.

The exhibit is a little difficult to appreciate if one does not speak Swedish. The objects on display are beautiful and varied, though, ranging from very old glass and crystal pieces to the very most contemporary work.

If you go the the Glass Museum the ticket also gives you entry into the Smalands Museum and Utvandrarnas Hus (all adjacent to each other). All three are not big in size but offer overall good value.

First we went to the history of Smaland section of the museum and after that we went to the glass section. We enjoyed the glass section more. There were some very nice pieces presented. Overall it was nice for about one hour. You could probably spent more time if you read everything, but we prefered to walk around and see... More

When you maybe have done a visit to the "Crystal kingdom" nearby, it can be interesting to make a visit to this museum in the city of Vaxjo.

Sweden is famous (and rightly so) for its art glass tradition and Växjö is home to one of its best museums of glass. A fantastic collection of the works of some of the country's foremost artists and craftsmen. Not rated as excellent simply because part of the museum was closed and I wanted to see more.

Amazing to see this ancient work of art form in a context to Swedish history and development. Very pleasant visit if you like art and history.
