For almost 800 years people have been coming to worship and pray at Linköping Cathedral. Work on the Cathedral was started in 1230, with the main building works being completed in 1520. The belfry and the west façade were added in 1885. Linköping Cathedral is the most impressive and expensive Swedish church building of the Middle Ages. Within the church you can see evidence of almost 800 years in which master craftsmen have expressed their faith in wood and stone

I went on a Sunday so the gift shop wasn't open. I went through the church prior to service and I was in awe. I don't speak the language and yet the service was one of the most beautiful I have ever seen!

From what i've heard it is the second biggest cathedral in Sweden. It is well kept. It still has the air of old ages in it. But you can also see some changes that come with the modern era. It is a peacefull place. What i really liked was that i found writings in swedish, greek, hebrew and latin at... More

Whenever we visit a new city and have time to explore, the cathedral is always on our list for the architecture (neither of us are religious). Linköping's cathedral stands tall above most buildings and is easy to find in the city centre. The grounds surrounding the building are nothing special but parts of the building make up for that a... I had never been to a cathedral when I walked into the Linkoping cathedral, so obviously I cannot give a comparative opinion. But what I can say is that I found it beautiful and interesting. The ceilings tower above you, and there is a lot of fascinating history in the burial tombs, tapestries, and artworks around the interior. The history... More

Being one of Sweden's largest cathedral-like churches, the regional church in Linkoping is a nice visit even though Protestant churches usually are not as decorated and abundant as Catholic ones. Occasional concerts and open ceremonies. Has a small exhibition close to the entrance with some history behind the church that dates back to the 13th century. There is a 100m... More

The old church, which rebuilt many years, since 13 century. This is a manifestation of respect and care of the townspeople to worship. For travelers traveling alone at the entrance is an information counter, where you can take free brochures understandable language (6 or 8 languages to choose from). In the restoration work is a lot of youth. The building,... More

This church is massive and worth the look to see how it has transformed over the years. They are currently doing some maintenance work on paintings and windows. Browse at your leisure but don't expect a warm welcome or conversation with the attendant for the church. She was rather gruff and rude.

I usually do not do churches, but this one intrigued me. It goes back such a long time that there are both catholic and protestant influences. It has a very open layout inviting one to wander around, discover nooks and corners and find and see stuff that varies from the ancient to the very modern. It has a very welcoming... More

In Linkoping this is the tallest structure and if I'm not mistaken they purposely make it be with respect to the religion. The size really stunning. There is a reception in front that I ask if we are allowed to go in as I can see some activity in the cathedral.1 lady assist me and allow us to go around. As the baptism...
