Visit was part of our package deal to Helsinki including seeing Porvoo. Church is subterranean blasted out of the solid rock and is obviously quite unique. Not sure its worth the status the Finns put on it unless your very religious (or a structural engineer)!

This church is really unique with its granite walls and coiled copper ceiling and is a must see. Although a working church, the accoustics are so good that it is often used for concerts. I attended a concert featuring the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra that was...More

Built into a rock materials have been chosen to match the granite walls. Wood, purple seats, calm music ... a place different to many churches. Nice to relax and sit still for a few minutes.

Fair question! Official Helsinki web page gives following answer: "Closed during church ceremonies and events." I would recommend to contact tourist office to get detailed information. Good luck
