Located in the Sibelius Park/Toolo neighborhood of Helsinki, this abstract monument forms a wave-like shape of over 600 steel pipes. This is definitely an unusual monument. Some critics felt the landmark did not honor Jean Sibelius and a large bust was added at the foot of the monument so viewers wouldn't be confused.

Jean Sibelius' (1865-1957) was a Finnish composer and violinist. The monument is located at the Sibelius park. The Sibelius Monument, resembling organ pipes, is made of welded steel with over 600 pipes and with the bust of the composer on the right hand side. The monument is one of Helsinki's most popular statues. The best time to visit to avoid the hundreds of tourists is either early morning or late evening. But definitely worth a visit and make sure you stand inside the monument to get the full experience.

The Sibelius Monument is one of the most visited and adored attractions in Helsinki. It is located in the Sibelius Park, in the district of Töölö, just a stone throw away from the sea. This monumental sculpture is made by Eila Hiltunen and it was unveiled in 1967, a decade after the composer's death. The monument, resembling organ pipes, is made of welded steel with over 600 pipes and with the bust of the composer on one side.

It is beautifully positioned in a park. We visited on a sunny winter afternoon and it looked pretty cool. There were few people around so we had the monument to ourselves, could walk around and appreciate the sculpture from different aspects. There is not much else around though, so i don't know i would make a special trip just for this.

The monument has a group of pipes and a separate silver sculpture of Sibelius’ face. The pipes are quite an impressive structure and worth a visit. A bonus is that the park is next to the sea for a sea view.
