A Top Five location in Iceland. Must Experience by Zodiac! (NOT by the "duck" boat)

This is a glacial lake filled with a huge number of icebergs, the remnants of calvings off the Breidamerkurjokull glacier (a tongue of the Vatnajokull ice cap). From the shore just off Highway 1 you can view and photograph the icebergs as they fill the lake and float by on their journey to the Atlantic ocean. Across the highway you... More

We did the duck boat tour. It's brief - less than an hour - but the scenery is truly stunning and the photo ops are incredible. Even if you book ahead, boarding is first come, first served, so if you'd like the first trip of the day, arrive 30 minutes in advance.

See the glacier ice very close and drive with a duck boat (!!)! The crew gives some interesting Info about the glacier lagoon and gives you ice to touch and lick. Not very cheap but totally a must do!

My friends and I LOVED the Glacier Lagoon . Spend the extra money and buy the Zodiac tickets. I'm sure the amphibian boats are a great experience as well, but the Zodiac takes you all around the Lagoon and closer to the glacier. Be warned, on the Zodiac tour you have to wear a floatation suit because you're riding in... More

This was just simply AMAZING. I have always wanted to see icebergs up close, those really blue ones and this didn't disappoint. You can book the amphibian boat which cruises around the base of the lagoon or the zodiac (small speed boat) which goes right up to the foot of the glacier, about 8km away from shore. I'd recommend the... More

The Zodiac tour was so much fun. Its a small 8-10 people boat and you can zip along. Our guide was very knowledgable and told us great stories about the Icelandic farm life. This is a not to miss. We loved seeing the seals sunbathing.

We booked this trip at the last minute, not knowing whether or not they would be open past September 30th - I AM SO GLAD WE DID! They provided us with some thick suites (no need to wear a coat or anything, stash it in your car before suiting up for the tour!) as well as life jackets that strapped... More

I first visited in 2013 and it was amazing, few people and lots of nature. the nature is still there but now it is overrun by people. No less than 10 tour buses were here the day I went. Parking is overflowing, there is no serenity and the effect is severely diminished. Iceland is suffering from an overcrowding problem; a... More

While we did not get a chance to go on the boats, we wished that we could. Unfortunately the weather was not cooperating. The area was still worth visiting to see the icebergs that have calves off of the glacier and float out to the sea. If you watch closely from the shore, you can see the seals playing among... More
