The IMAGINE PEACE TOWER is a work of art conceived by the legendary artist and peace advocate Yoko Ono as a beacon to world peace. It is dedicated to the memory of John Lennon. The IMAGINE PEACE TOWER is located on Viðey Island in Kollafjörður and it's light is well visible from Reykjavík city and the capital area. Every year the IMAGINE PEACE TOWER emerges an hour after sunset between 9 October (Lennon's day of birth) and 8 December (Lennon's demise). In addition the IMAGINE PEACE TOWER emerges for one week on winter solstice, on New Year's Eve, for one week during spring equinox and few other selected dates. The ever changing weather conditions play an interesting part to the strength, intensity and brilliance of the IMAGINE PEACE TOWER’S light. During it's lighting time guided tours are avaiable called the Imagine Peace Tour. The tour is dedicated to the IMAGINE PEACE TOWER and Lennon’s and Ono’s continuing campaign for world peace. It is run by Elding with departures from Reykjavík's Old harbour. The tour unites history, art and nature is an interesting way.

Beautiful feature of Videy Island. Not far from the main ferry port on the island too. Very peaceful, serene spot. Perfect for those wanting a break from the busier aspects of Reykjavik.

We were able to see this on our visit to Videy Island. It is a few minutes walk from where the ferry drops you off and, even though it was daylight and there were no soaring lights in the sky, it was worth the effort...More

our visit was in summer so you don't get to see it lit up. But lovely to go and see it up close for a day trip. It is cool in the winter months when it is lit to see

Nice ferry ride over to island, but nothing much to see. Peace Tower is a little hole that is only lit a short time during the year. Good for a walk thru the grasslands but that's about it. Cafe on grounds was ok,but expensive. Little...More

Unless a day when illuminated it is just a circular construction, tiled white with peace written in different languages.

Dear Angela H, You're absolutely right, you just need to get on the ferry and you will be able to participate to the ceremony. The ferry will be leaving from Skarfabakki. All the best, The Elding team
