Incredible jump in the past !

For the old children that still play with small trains, here is the place to be !
Some fellow enthusiasts bought, refurbished and maintained old vapour trains, including the railway stations, the tools, the clothes, ... required to operate it. And they do it !
You can take the train to an incredible slow (30 Km/h) travel through Luxembourg, in plain genuine wagons, in the smell of old wood and coal smoke !

Not to miss. Nice pictures ahead !

Too expensive
Aug 2017 • Family
Sorry, too expensive for the short travel and the missing view. It's a shame.
Nothing else to say, really nothing.

Disappointing - AVOID!
Jul 2017 • Family
Waste of time, money and effort. The train rides are dull, including 1,5 km in an unlit tunnel, just drop dead boring and pointless. The 'tour' in the mine is an insult. Irrelevant information given very hastily, uninteresting, and extremely rude staff to boot. Forget coming here with kids. Several children on our tour were crying, which was completely understandable. Felt like a tourist trap, very unpleasant. The landscape/surroundings are nothing special either. AVOID!

A lovely steam train followed by a very memorable trip on the 'Minièresbunn'
Aug 2016 • Couples
We went to Petange on a scorching hot August day on the regular train, to catch the 'Train 1900' steam train to Fond-De-Gras in the hope of getting on the 'Minièresbunn' (Miner's Train).

The steam train was a great experience, rattling along twisty tracks through wooded, green forests, it must be like traveling all those years ago. The smoke from the locomotive did blow in a bit but not to any annoying levels, it was fun. The carriages are in great condition. We went into the first class section and had our own compartment, which was almost luxurious compared to today's trains!

We reached Fond-de-Gras only to find the Miner's train absolutely jam packed. The staff were sympathetic, informing everyone it was a very popular day and the packed train was due to an earlier failure (of a set of their carriages), and due to that this was also going to be the last trip down the mine that day.

We prepared to turn back but out of the kindness of their hearts a man, woman and their child squeezed a bit more into their seat to make room and a member of staff beckoned for us to get on. We were very lucky in many ways, as the following trip turned out to be a marvelous visit and to miss out on it would have been very disappointing.

The trip through the mine was amazing. From the over 30 degree heat, we plunged into a cooler atmosphere and it was amazing to see all the little tunnels winding off. Once through, at Lasauvage we were asked to change to another more traditional looking train carriage, which was hauled by a small diesel locomotive, which took us to Saulnes in France. We were afforded some time here to get out and stretch our legs.

We were then taken back to Lasauvage, where we got back onto the Minièresbunn and were taken back into the mine, where this time we stopped and were asked to get out. The staff, who are all former mine workers, with great care and professionalism took us on a tour of parts of the mine, explaining all the different processes and were there to answer everyone's questions. I must extend my deep gratitude to these mine workers for also giving the tour in English. They explained that they didn't speak English that well, and as most people who go on the tour were from Luxembourg, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany or France then it wasn't generally an issue. But that they would go to the effort to speak in English for me and my wife, was very kind of them and we didn't or won't ever forget their kindness, patience and what a wonderful day they gave us.

We all had a great laugh in the train on the way back and were just in time to catch the returning 'Train 1900' steam train back to Petange.

Everything about this day was enjoyable. A big thank you to the great people who run this amenity and I would very much recommend a visit if you get the chance.

Railwaypark, lovely historical locomotives, a Train from 1900;
Fond de Gras is an open air museum, historic buildings, history of the iron industry in Luxembourg, mining train: The visit is only on sunday; to visit this old train with your children is very fun, and the train goes slowly and let of much steam and blown from time to time and whizz through the air. I was only going one time, it was very funny.

A place taken from another time. Travel back in time and visit a place that shows the importance of trains throughout the years. Take a walk and just enjoy the surroundings.
