The museum is rather small but quite interesting. It was very quiet and there were no other visitors at the same time we were there (a lucky coincidence i suppose). The most important part of the exposition, which involves the region and it's history, is...More

A small well laid out museum which chronicles the history of the town. Good exhibits and accompanying explanations. Visiting this would be time well spent while touring Hallstatt

Who knew that this is the site of the world's oldest salt mine? This little museum was quite nice and well worth a visit to understand the ancient history of the area, as well as important anthropologic finds in the ancient salt mines.

given that this towns location has had people on or around it for 6000 years I think they did a wonderful job showing the important history of the area.

Not very much special attraction inside. You can of course visit if you have enough time, otherwise walk around and watch the nature.

For such a small town, this is an impressive museum with items dating back to the bronze age including textiles.

We might not have ventured into the museum if the weather had been fine - but, in that case, we would have missed an excellent museum. We checked that there was English explanation as well as German so that we would get the most out...More

really nicely made and shows very much history. Did not believe how much history there is in such a small town but this museum really shows it very nicely and also in a fun, very understandable and great way.
