Hellbrunn Castle offers a range of experiences from an self guided (with personal audio system) tour of the actual castle, lovely gardens that includes the iconic Sound of Music pavilion of I am 16 Going on 17 fame, the row of trees featured in the picnic with Maria and the children in the movie, and of course, the water trick... Too bad, when we went to this place, the tour was already closed (esc trick fountains) and we went around this garden. There's a lot of spots to take pictures, since the place is huge. Dont forget to take pictures in front of the gazebo (a replica in the Sound of the music movie). After the christmas, christmas market was... More

No need for me to go into vast detail about what is on offer here because the reviews already posted give you chapter and verse about the place. Needless to say visit it especially if you have children. This was on our tour list and we rated it highly and could have spent more time here. The Sound of Music... More

Schloss Hellbrunn is a castle with park near Salzburg. The baroque Schloss Hellbrunn was built by Prince-Archbishop Marcus Sittikus von Hohenems. The palace has a park with invisible fountains that do begin very sudden to spray water. The archbishop did install these fountains to entertain his guests. There is also the mechanical music playing water theater, with images that depict... More

The Schloss Hellbrun is a public park with wonderfully landscaped grounds. The part that requires a tour is the part that include the trick fountains. Of most interest is the mansion and its garden of trick fountains. I think this is a one of kind place. It's fantastic that they have kept these water fountains and water-powered exhibits in working... More

We stopped in Hellbrunn before Salzburg during a Germany/Austria tour trip and found this place with its Christkindmarkt beautifully decorated and very friendly. It was surprisingly not too crowded considering the season. We were surprised to find the Sound of Music gazebo on site and for the SOM fans, it made the visit magical.

The palace has wonderful gardens. One can tour the fountains and water park separately. This takes about an hour. There are lot of fountains which operate without the knowledge of the tourists, so prepare to get wet, but its a very good experience and fun.

The castle is located on a gorgeous grounds, lots of green space and trees, a few ponds, and there are mountains nearby. If you visit in the morning (in the winter at least) it is very peaceful and quiet. There is a christmas market set up that opens at 15:00 or so. Fun to see if you're a Sound of... More

The Hellbrun Castle is a baroque style huge villa.Scenes from the Sound of Music have been shot here. They have a very beautiful lawn area here. It is worth going inside the castle with the basic ticket and viewing all the parts with the help of the audio guide.
