We've been to quite a few aquariums, and they always dissapoint a bit in size and animal variety. But Haus des Meeres deliveres, both in animals (crocodiles!) as well as in spectacular architectural exhibitions. Plus the view from the top is amazing. Take your time to enjoy the entitre tower, it's well worth it.

REALLY MUST GO, especially if you have children. Quite interesting, it's worth it. Take time to learn things. EXCELLENT the view from its terrace. TIP. Do not drop it like us who visited it with the backpacks. It has lockers to leave your stuff and especially the jackets because it has very hot inside.

It was just fine ,however, I expected more from this ZOO. We started from the top and went down which was better idea. Restaurant on the roof was average but with a great view on the city.

This was a hidden gem for me. I enjoy an aquarium so was keen to visit, but there was much more at the venue across the 9 floors of the building - including open rooms with birds and monkies roaming around freely! There is a nice cafe on the top floor with lovely views across the town, and nice food.... More

The view from the 9th floor was maybe my favorite attraction in Vienna - wonderful view. The aquarium itself was somewhat small, variety-wise. My girls enjoyed the see-through tunnel, the fish that eat your fingers, playing with the large lizard, the tiny sea-horses, and the small monkeys that surround you in the tropical house, but one of the girls did... Right in the centre of Vienna in an old anti aircraft tower from WW2 is this aquarium with thousands of litres of salt as well as fresh water animals. There are life feedings of sharks to see but also crocodiles, monkey and some birds. A great place for families with children.

I have visited many aquariums and oceanarium and this one is too expensive for what they are offering (in therms of experience). Concept of the building itself is interesting, floor by floor you have many things to see. For some reason I didn't feel that aquariums were well maintained. Glass was scratched on so many places, water was not clean,... More

Neighbourhood Profile
Vienna’s sixth district hosts high street shopping heaven and pedestrian area Mariahilfer Strasse. The weirdest local building is probably the city aquarium Haus des Meeres, housed in one of Vienna’s six remaining World War II defense towers, and topped with a rooftop bar that offers stunning views over Vienna and the centre. One of the most historic sites in the area is the passageway of 18th century Raimundhof with its small shops and cafés. It leads from Mariahilfer Strasse to Windmühlgasse. For a glimpse into the world of early 19th century theater, visit Semperdepot, the former depository for theatre decoration, which now hosts art exhibitions and fairs.
