Beautiful Sunny chilly feb morning and we walked all over the gardens and up the hill, great views of the city. not busy with people so you felt relaxed and no rush, great photo opportunities, don't visit just the palace without going in the gardens

The public was first welcomed to the park at Schönbrunn Palace around 1779. It’s a large area (1.2 kilometres east to west and one kilometre north to south) with many different features, making it the perfect recreational area for both visitors and locals.

This location was such a pretty place to walk around. This palace was the most majestic one I've been to!

The gardens are open and free to the public and cover acres. We saw just a small part of the gardens and loved every minute of it. The statues, fountains and formal gardens were truly magnificent.

Our tour guide stopped here, so we could walk around the gardens....beautiful! Be sure to get a photo of one of you with hands cupping the breasts of the Sphinx...supposed to bring fertility! Even though I am a mother of three and grandmother of three, I had my husband take the photo for good luck for my yet unmarried adult... More

I've been to the Schonbrunn gardens a handful of times, and still have not seen all of the pockets and corners. It's a great place to visit multiple times for a nice stroll, or even a run. I've seen many people jogging throughout the gardens. The view from the top of the hill is breathtaking, and the flowers in the... More

You need to climb up, and that needs a lot of stamina. But once there you'd be amazed by the view. The fountains, lawns, palace all highly recommended.

I have the privilege to live only 4 stops away from Schönbrunn Palace and I love to walk in the gardens any time of the year. My recent visit was on a sunny day in midst winter, with everything covered in snow. Very beautiful and romantic. The gardens are extensive and you have lots of different options to walk (or... Staying in Hietzing

Neighbourhood Profile
Vienna’s 13th district has always been in the shadow of Schönbrunn Palace and its gardens, but has interesting hidden gems waiting to be discovered. Allow half a day for the imposing Habsburg residence and the gardens with Gloriette belvedere. Reserve the other half to discover the secret charms of this posh residential neighbourhood. Sneak out of the gardens at Hietzinger Tor (Hietzing Gate) and head down Hietzinger Hauptstrasse for Kaiserpavillon (Emperor’s pavilion), an Art Nouveau gem right on top of U4’s metro railtracks. At local institutions Café Dommayer and restaurant Plachutta you can mingle with residents, their families and friends. Dommayer has risen to fame since waltz king Johann Strauss and his orchestra performed there regularly. If you want to go beyond private villa gazing visit Klimtvilla and Hermesvilla. Art Nouveau genius Gustav Klimt had his last studio in a now beautifully renovated villa, which is open during spring and summer. Hermesvilla at Lainzer Tiergarten animal enclosure and nature park is a must for all romantics and fans of Empress Sissi.
