Plan your walk around Vienna so you get to see this cheerful heating plant. There is noting except the plant ther, but the Danube canal is near, so you can have a nice walk near the water afterwards.

Didn't go on a tour, but just seeing the outside is worth the trip to this fascinating facility. Travel there easily by train or tram from the city.

Just happened to be on the bus route from our river boat dock into the city, so we went past this structure on several occasions. Simply fascinating what they have done to this waste incinerator plant to make it of interest: it will polarise views as to it being either innovative modern architecture or a waste of space but it... THE DISTRICT HEATING PLANT in the Spittelau district of Vienna is a very unusual landmark that is impossible to miss if your in this area of the city. Located very close to Spittelau train station ,you exit here and you cannot miss this building. We alway's visit this area to visit the great beerhall Brandauers bierbögen which is an amazing... You will either think this is very neat or a waste of time. Take a look at the pictures - if you don't understand why this is even considered an attraction don't go (as far as I know it is not open to the general public), if you think "that looks cool & I want to see it in person",... More

Special building in an industrial environment in the outskirt area of Vienna. It is worth a visit at the cross of U4 and U6.

if you change the outside of a horrible building it stays a horrible building, even if the new outside is designed by an artist like Friedensreich Hundertwasser

We passed this on a boat tour from the Danube to Schwedenplatz and found it was the local district heating plant designed by Austria's favorite kitsch-artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser. Never seen anything so outlandish for such a building, but it actually works so well. Have worked on construction of many Power Stations in the UK but this by far the best... More

To me, the building seemed more remarkable than the Hundertwasserhaus from the same architect, because of the geometric structure. We had a Vienna pass for the subway, and it's right next to the subway station Spittelau, so it was worth paying a visit. Nice to see, if you can stand the smell of the waste. But it is nice that... When in Vienna and if You have a spare hour, just get on U4 line and go to metro stop Spittelau, just 100 metres outside of metro entrance You will see two buildings decorated by famous dreamer, deep philosopher, outstanding architect and creative designer in one person who' s name is Hundertwasser. Two landmarks and it changes life for locals... More
