Even we cannot see the big swirl, it is definitely a good place to visit, the scenery is amazing, on a sunny day, a picnic would be a good option.

its worth it to make the 30 min drive over from Bodo, if and only if you can catch high tide. definitely walk up the bridge to catch it from above before heading down below.

Sounds impressive and by numbers it really is, but what you can see is really only bubbling and fast streaming water. If it is good weather and you are there in right time, then it is somewhat interesting. In bad weather and/or outside the peak...More

It took some time to find the tide tables which will give you information on when the maelstrom is at its strongest. I viewed it from the high bridge above which producers fantastic photos, but I think if you could find a place to watch...More

This stretch of water shows the power of the change in tides through a narrow opening. Tons of water pour through the space with whirlpools constantly forming. It is a world wonder.

I honestly don't know what else to say but BEAUTIFUL! If you go here, be sure to stop by the Café/Restaurant "Kjelen" with a panoramic view over the stream. Tip: check the time table for when the steram is at it's strongest.

I am not sure how all this whirling water happens, but it is very fascinating. We were also in luck as the seagulls were mating and we could look down on all the activity from the bridge.

Walk over bridge and down to headland either side for best views. Check tide times for fastest water speed not high / low tide.

The most gorgeous fjords and and royal blue waters meandering about the whole town backed with gorgeous icy mountains. A must visit for fishing or even just to drive around and enjoy the splendorous view. Not crowded a wonderful place

My wife uses an electric mobility scooter. We are visiting Bodo in late March 2017 as part of a Fred Olsen cruise.. We are aware that the paths may not be accessible but the Fed Olsen tour info states that the maelstrom can be seen from the coach park. Would you recommend this tour to us on the proviso that we might not be able to get right down? Also can you advise if the Saltstraumen Experience Centre is fully accessible.

we hope to catch the ferry from Moskenes to Bodo on Sat 28 May, arriving Bodo at 10:15. How often does the RIB sail on that date - and can you just turn up (our travelplans are flexible) and does it sail on Sunday 29 May - and at what times?
