Pedestrian friendly thoroughfare with many shops, cafes, and restaurants. Good for retail therapy or to just relax and have a bite to eat at one of the many sidewalk cafes.

We walked through at night. It's good people watching, some local street performers, and some souvenir as well as mid to high-end clothing stores. Walking up towards the royal palace is a nice view

Beautiful street where you can see the shops and small cafes of Oslo. This street is pleasant and it is the main street of the city.

Busy area with lots of shops and restaurants. Among the major tourist attractions location along the street are the Parliament Building, National Theatre and The Royal Castle.

This place is most likely a pick pockets dream as it is very crowded by day. It is right outside of the train station and the only place we visited here was a convenience store to get coffee, yogurt and a roll.

We were only in Oslo for a night and spent it wandering up Karl Johan's gate. Great views of the sights, little shops and pubs and good for people watching. Lots of lovely well kept flowers and gardens too.

Oslo's "Main Street," this broad avenue includes the palace, the main train station, parliament and many casual restaurants with outside seating, perfect for people watching. We walked it several times and ended our trip sitting outside, under heaters, and watching the world go by.

If you are down to shopping then definitely recommended. Such a fun area to wonder around and discover Oslo. The only downside was homeless people and druggies sitting there and here but in general worth of going.
