Went over to see the red squirrels as they only live on the island and isle of wight here in the south, took a picnic and had a good long walk.. it was a relaxing day and worth the effort..

Arrived by ferry from Sandbanks and walked around the island. There are stunning views and lots of wild life. Had a freshly made sandwich before leaving on the ferry back to Poole via the harbour cruise. A most enjoyable day

We were in Bournemouth for a couple of days and had spent majority of previous day and a ½ walking so figured on being lazy and taking the ferry to Brownsea Island to round off our last ½ day in the area. The ferry starts at something like 9:30am and the island itself closes at 5pm so the window to... More

Brownsea island must be the crown in Poole's significant number of stunning places to visit. After a short ferry ride (always a hit with the kids) there are numerous trails through the woods to explore, all with fabulous views of Poole harbour. You make even spot a red squirrel while having an idyllic waterside picnic....

We caught the ferry from Poole Quay, which was £10.75 and arrived about 20 mins later. We alighted and as were NT members it was free, but usually £7.70 for adults. We were informed the tour started at 11.30 (5 mins) so nipped to the ladies but when we came out they had already gone. There were at least 2... More

Let's say that we weren't very lucky. Cold wet and wind.. not ideally to go on the ferry.. but didn't have a choice.. the ferry for poole is every 30 minutes.. every past 20 each our or 10 to.. its about 10 pound plus 8 pound to go on the island.. but if you are national trust members you wont... After a two hour drive we parked in the recommended Sandbanks car park and then walked 10 minutes to the jetty for our private NT boat ride across to Brownsea. This was the pre-booked bird walk guided by the very knowledgable ranger John who gave us an excellent insight as to the general history of Brownsea and the wildlife/birdlife there.... More

You take a ferry from Poole but as a Trust run place you have to pay entry to visit the island too. But its worth it as the views around the island are fantastic. We visited the Scout Camp too and relived our youth. The cafe is excellent and I can recommend the quiche.
