People cannot drive , ignorant and unable to use round a bouts or simple road signs walkers and drivers beware. The road layouts can only have been designed by sheep because none of it make sense. Get the buss. Footpaths seem too narrow for the 3 abreast walking residents who clearly will not move out the way while looking at the... More

The town has a nice park and a great zoo. However be aware if your driving in town of the poorly signed bus lane on North hill this lane has camera's and as i did you will recieve a fine.A typical money making scheme by a council as this road has hardly no congestion and is very wide and would not... My wife hated it and said it was a dump. A bit harsh. I thought it was good. The streets all set in squares it seems and it's easy to loose sense of direction. It's one of the oldest towns in the UK but hasn't kept it's identity like york. I was most impressed by the range of independent shops,... More

My wife and I did the Historic Walking Tour, which we both found extremely interesting and informative. Our guide, who was very knowledgeable and friendly, took us through the History of Colchester from pre Roman times until fairly modern times. The walk lasted 2 hours and was suitable for anyone with normal ability. We and several other tourists found that... More

Tis guest house was an ideal base to explore Colchester. Just out of the City with 2 local pubs in walking distance and away from main traffic routes. It was clean bright, comfortable with owners who really want to please. Breakfast marvellous and really sets you up for the day. The owners take great pains to provide exemplary accommodation and... Went to Colchester on a day trip full of expectation. What a boring place! If you are a student of Roman history then don't be put off. Or if you specifically want to visit the Zoo. But for the rest of us out on a day trip, the place just lacks any charm and doesn't seem to gel. Read one... More

Colchester is an ancient charming Roman city in Essex, England. It has a medieval castle with a beautiful park where you can see wonderful flowers and trees. In spring, the wonderful wisteria is in bloom and many colorful tulips enchant the visitors even at the Castle Park entrance. From near the castle the hills around the city can be seen.... More

Colchester is an amazing town - formerly the capital of England. The Romans built thick walls of brick and stone around it and remnants are still extant - the gateway and uphill Balkerne hill is flanked by substantial sections. The Mercury Theatre is always producing fascinating and varied plays with additional material from amateur companies and comedians. A moderately priced... More
