I have been going to productions at the Mercury Theatre since it first opened. And while many are good, often outstanding, just occasionally there is a show which really stands out. This is Spamalot, the Eric Idle musical, which is the funniest show I have ever seen at the theatre. The first night audience were falling about and crying with... More

A rather dark subject presented with a little humour by the charismatic Professor Winston. We are so lucky to have the Mercury Theatre which presents such diverse entertainment for us.

A wide variety of shows are put on over the course of a year and are all very entertaining and professional with many TV stars appearing in certain plays.

Great location just off Colchester high street with a multistorey car park close by. Friendly & helpful staff. Clean toilets. A very good choice of shows at reasonable ticket prices. The theatre has generous size seats & knee space & everyone can see the stage without any restricted views. The bar area is small with limited tables and chairs. Our... More

We like to see a show here now and again. It offers great value. I personally prefer the musicals. We would certainly recommend a visit to all local residents. The quality of the productions is high. 😀

I have heard recitals ( piano and violin) here and the acoustic was good. I more recently saw a farce and a serious play by Shakespeare. The acting by well known performers and directors was brilliant. I has a good variety of shows and has good facilities for the hard of hearing, a decent bar and an adjacent restaurant. If... More

Great theatre. Big enough to have big shows, small enough to feel intimate and have a good view. Seating good for young children as tiers quite steep so better chance they can see. Recently enjoyed Tiger Who Came To Tea and Magic Pencil - both sweet.

Saw the farce Bang Bang here in March. The theatre facilities as ever are good, although the bar can get crowded, a good trick is to get interval coffees from the foyer downstairs and avoid the queues. Tickets were reasonable at about £25 for best seats. the actual performance was not to our taste, a rather dated farce, although to... More
