BLUE BADGE PARKING ONLY IS AVAILABLE. OTHER PARKING PLEASE USE LOCAL PAY & DISPLAY. Head through the imposing gatehouse and step into 3,000 years of history. Explore the castle headland with one of our experienced guides for FREE or embark on your own journey through history with one of our audio tours and gain a fascinating insight into its past, from Iron Age settlements, to the Roman signal station and medieval chapel. The castle's heyday was in the 12th century when it was developed by Henry II and King John. This mighty castle has seen action in some of England's most defining battles. It was twice besieged by Parliamentarians in the Civil War, and has defended king and country from the Jacobites, Napoleon and the German Kaiser, when it came under bombardment during the First World War.

The castle is set on the headland with views all along the coast. The history incudes the Romans, anglo-saxons and world war 2. There is an exhibition about the castle a small shop and a cafe. Dogs are welcome. It is a long walk up from the town and there is no carparking . However there are spaces if you... More

We had a lovely time at the castle! The castle has information boards dotted round and I do believe an audio tour can be bought. Well worth the visit.

We were given audio speakers for our visit. Was loads better with these as all the track is sign posted and takes you on the correct route and explains all the history of the place. Good little coffee shop at hand and souvenir shop.

A good climb to get in the castle itself and then a great walk around a huge site. An audio tour is worth having. English heritage also had wine and liqueur tasting - can recommend their elderflower and lemon!

Myself and my family had a lovely day out today, to start there are quite a few stairs but once you get up there it's lovely. There is a admission fee to get in and small gift shop when you enter. They have done a lovely job looking after a piece of English heritage. They have a small cafe that... More

Atmospheric but testing walk up from the harbour. Well signposted and easy to follow, but not for the less mobile. Very steep and uneven. When you reach the top you walk along the castle wall until you reach the castle entrance. Great views of the sea either side of the headland. Also Anne Brontes grave in the church nearby opposite... An interesting castle with great views of Scarborough. Best visited in decent weather as the headland is exposed and there is only a cafe and small exhibition indoors.

I have been going to Scarborough since i was about 1967, this month was the first time ever that i have been to the castle. Learning about the history was quite good. The area it covers was unexpected as it was huge. There are toilets and a cafe, when we was there they were having a wine tasting and jam... More

After a lung bursting walk up from the sea front we received a very friendly welcome at the Castle. The exhibition above the tea room is very interesting with ancient and modern WW1 history. It was a clear bright day & the views over Scarborough & the coastline were amazing. Not much of the castle is left standing but the... More
