Vast gardens and walking areas designed by Capability Brown. A family church and the castle itself, all enchanting and historic. During world war 2, injured servicemen were treated here on the ground floor. In fact, the house served the nation. Now it entertains the nation, having been used as the site of a popular television series in the Up Stairs Down Stairs... More

Went here as a surprise day out. I am a huge fan of Downton Abbey so to visit the place it was filmed was amazing. Very interesting to see the house. The only negative is that I would have liked to have seen a mock up of the kitchens and 'downstairs' staff quarters. Instead there was a very random Ancient... More

Well worth a visit - I went on a warm summers day with a friend who was visiting from Germany. The gardens were beautiful we really should have allowed longer - recommend

Wow I'm not a fan of Downton Abbey my wife is. From the moment you drive on to the estate and the first glimpse of the castle your taken there. This tour was on the face of it expensive but after a lovely introduction from the countess of carnarvon the lady guide and of course a lovely afternoon tea it... More

LOVED IT? The castle is about 75 minutes outside of London and well worth the visit, even if you're not a Downton Abbey fan. There is SO much to see ...a castle in really good shape, furnishings that were used in the miniseries, a museum f Egyptology (a previous Lord Carnarvon financed Carter's numerous excavations, culminating in the discovery f... We went in the summer and enjoyed the day so much when we saw the Christmas dates we had to go again. The summer was amazing with the gardens all being in bloom. At Christmas we enjoyed the decorations and singers in the main hall made it extra special.

This was a last minute detour when we realized we were so close as we were driving from London to Bath, a beautiful day to take the tour through this famous old stately house, the grandeur of days gone by, set out on massive tended grounds, worth the stop and see even if you aren't a fan of Downton Abbey.

Loved it. Everything was top draw. The tour was pleasant and informative. The guides were friendly and knowledgeable. The valentines tea was scrummy and we ate every morsel. King tuts exhibition was very interesting. The only disappointment was that it was such a bitterly cold day we were too cold to explore the grounds. Hubby has promised a return visit... More

The house is fabulous, the staff helpful and friendly and the history is fascinating. BUT we went on a special Valentine private tour and tea and it was frustrating to see that would could have been a really special experience was poorly thought through in some respects. I felt the little talks as we toured the property could have been... More

I am a fan of Downtown Abbey and always wanted to visit the house but not at peak season. This was just perfect. Around 40 people were at the 10.30 tour yesterday. It was lovely to be greeted by the guides and Lady Carnarvon with a lab Alfie. Lady Carnarvon joined our tour at the beginning to add a depth... More
