Loch of the Lowes Visitor Centre and Wildlife Reserve covers 98 hectares near Dunkeld. From early April to late August, the star attraction is a pair of breeding ospreys, which nest just 150 metres from our observation hide. Interactive displays help bring the story of Loch of the Lowes to life. Get closer to the ospreys with binoculars, telescopes and live video footage. Spot red squirrels, woodpeckers and other woodland birds from viewing windows. Our gift shop offers a range of wildlife-related gifts and souvenirs. Hot and cold drinks and light refreshments are available.

I visited just after the ospreys had left, unfortunately! It is a lovely place, but I think that there is a limited amount of area that you are allowed into. The hides are very close to the centre, which is very good, and there are...More

We walked to the Visitor Centre from Dunkeld (about 2.6 km) which is definitely worthwhile if you like to do a bit of walking - the views are really great. The Visitors Centre itself costs £4 which we found worth the money. There is a...More

We passed the place by coincidence. And we are glad we did. The peace and quiet in this place are truly wonderful. We went into one of hides and just looked over the loch. Not a sound except for the wind and birds. After that...More

What a hidden gem this place is. The loch is absolutely stunning - so tranquil and unspoilt. You can go in the hides (which are even equipped with telescopes) and watch all the birdlife. We saw a couple of species of duck, a swan and...More

Lucky to see osprey chick hatch in May, and that chick is now a majestic Osprey getting ready to migrate to Gambria or another country in the north west of Africa. Incredible journey which the female of the mates has already embarked upon along with...More

We visited because the reserve is one of the top 5 sites for red squirrels in the UK, but there were no squirrels! However the visitor centre has an amazing quasi-one-way viewing area out onto the bird feeders and we saw less common species such...More

We stopped here for a short visit to hear a presentation from staff and go outside to view the osprey nest from the hides. The big glass window at the center also allows you to observe the birds and red squirrels who come to feed....More

We've been visiting the Loch of Lowes for several years, and always get a thrill for seeing so many wild creatures in one place. The £4 entrance fee is well worth the price, particularly given that the staff are volunteers and they do a fantastic...More

I notice this hasn't actually been answered although it is clear on the website. Dogs are welcome at Lowes, but only guide dogs are allowed in the Visitor Center through which they have access to the hides. No matter how... More
