We called in here unexpectedly but what a lovely place. We managed to catch a taster tour of the house and have a wander in the beautiful gardens. It's such a shame we didn't have more time. We'll definitely make another visit (and bring the...More

To my mind Upton House means the Bearsted Collection. This is an amazing collection of Old Master paintings plus an unrivalled collection of porcelain. I therefore found the current presentation rather disappointing. The imposing entrance hall and the spectacular long gallery were both screened off...More

We visited the house and grounds before doing a lovely walk in the vicinity. Entry is free to National Trust members and there is a golf buggy for the less able to get from the car park to the house. You need to get your...More

National Trust have done a great job restoring the house. For our visit the story being told was of the families WWII involvement which was very well told. Throughout the exhibits and artwork were great and the staff were on hand but not over zealous...More

We visited on a dull, damp day so it might not have been the best time. Some aspects of the visit were good: beautiful and unusual garden, an unexpected but small art gallery, Sevres porcelain, restaurant and gift/plant shop. However, the visit didn’t work for...More

Worth a visit not cheap. Take a picnic easy access for parking. Gardens are worth a visit even if that's all you do.

Taken me a little while to circle back to this review. We visited at the end of April and the weather was cold. The house to us seemed to have fewer stories than many other NT properties and didn’t feel steeped in history as others...More

I am turning my review around 180 degrees. I am a volunteer worker at Upton, part of The Welcome Team. Over the years I have enjoyed sharing my experience of Upton House and Gardens with visitors. Yesterday I had the pleasure of spending my day...More

We preferred the layout of the house as the wartime bank as it flowed better and we felt we learned more about the family but the gardens are still nice to look around and there’s a small shop and tea room. Well worth a visit.

Visited today and really enjoyed this property. The 10-mins or so opening talk was informative and it makes a real difference when places bother to do that. Such friendly volunteers all around. Rooms were very well labelled and the theme and flow of the house...More

My idea would be to ring Upton and find out what they suggest. The staff are so helpful - they may be able to help you plan your visit so that you can use the restaurant. The food at Upton is excellent and caters for all. If... More
