About
Grappenhall Heys Walled Garden was originally part of the estate of Thomas Parr, a wealthy banker in Warrington who established his home here around 1830. After a turbulent period of demise, the four acre garden garden was saved and transformed back to its former glory. Facilities include a pleasure garden with 3 ponds, a fully stocked kitchen garden, a cafe which is only open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday serving a selection of freshly made food. The site, owned and managed by Grappenhall & Thelwall Parish Council, is open, with free admission Tuesday-Sunday. Opening times: Tuesday - Thursday from 12 - 4pm (Garden only), Friday 10am - 4pm, Saturday & Sunday 10am - 4pm (Garden and Cafe). The site has disabled access and toilet facilities. Dogs are allowed on leads and closely supervised (but not within the cafe area)

    Gorgeous garden, super cafe.
One of my favourite places near Warrington. A very attractive walled garden and surrounding wooded areas and a lovely cafe. Very nice, high quality food and very pleasant service. Sit inside under greenhouse glass or outside. Enjoy a walk and then relax with a few well-deserved refreshments. Great!

Good choice of high quality cake
Looking for a café in an area we used to know well, but had never heard of this place. What a find. Didn't get chance to investigate the garden but sat inside the café, opposite the kitchen. Expensive fayre, as people have commented, however everything is of a high standard. Efficient service and a lovely ambience. Leaf Early Grey tea and an exceptional, individual carrot cake. We'll be back when next in the area.

We were pretty shocked when our kids’ orders of pancakes arrived and there was only one on each plate. …£9 for two pancakes?!

The surroundings and food are great, staff are friendly and helpful but a bit rushed off their feet, looked like they hadn't had a break all day!

Absolutely lovely hidden gem of a place, glorious gardens and ponds kept immaculately. Disappointed that we couldn’t sit inside on what was a blowy day. Staff explained its takeaway only during the week due to the inside being a community space for events. Whilst I understand that, it seems silly to see people struggle outside with the wind when the inside was completely empty! We struggled to find a bin to put our cups and cake boxes in. I think it would be a wonderful regular favourite if it opened all week.

There has never been an intention to operate a cafe all week at the Walled Garden and the Community Space is regularly in use Tuesday- Thursdays by art groups, school groups, visiting groups etc. The concession for catering is only Friday - Sunday and to make the space available for visitors to use as a cafe outside of these hours would add to our running costs (lighting/heating/extra cleaning etc) which in these financially challenging times is not feasible. Similarly, we do not provide bins within the garden because we have an extremely small staff team, entry to the garden is free and we therefore politely request that visitors take their rubbish home with them :-)

Very unique, peaceful and beautiful. Well maintained garden with opportunity to see many fruit trees and sole unique specimens. Some wildlife on site - kids can feed the ducks and big fish swimming in the ponds. It's also historical with a story to tell. Hidden gem with a genuine feel to it - there are not many places like this.

Fantastic experience since the new owners have taken over. The cafe has improved in every aspect and certainly a lot more welcoming than before. I’d stopped coming but have been twice since the change of ownership and will be back often now. Perfect stop off on a dog walk and the staff can’t do enough for you. No longer waiting for ages to be served or for your food to arrive. 10 out of 10.
