We carried out our first PADI Dive course 5 years ago in the Orkney Islands and since then we have always felt the need to return on a semi regular basis. We started off diving on the Churchill Barriers and eventually moved out into Scapa Flow to dive on some of the german fleet wrecks that still remain there today.... More

A must see part of Orkney. Lots of history, lots of wrecks but so acessible. Fantastic beaches on the Churchill Barriers, great walks with no body to trouble you!

I love the whole of Orkney and have dived the flow many many times. The opportunities for seeing wildlife as well as the grand high seas fleet etc are fantastic. Lovely place well recommended for families, groups and solo travellers

I am not usually interested in World War II related history, but this is fascinating and beautiful. All the little towns around the Flow are lovely and friendly. This was a good trip!

So much of interest here. The nature of the sea, the 20thC history and the views of it from many Orkney places.

We were treated to an insiders private tour of Scapa Flow by Orkney Uncovered. So much history from the medieval period to the world wars. Supposed to be great for diving which we will do next time we visit.

The Churchill Barriers shield the deep harbour and were built during the second world war by Italian prisoners of war. They also built the so-called Italian Chapel overlooking the Flow. The blockships., placed after the first world war to restrict access to the... More
