Fermanagh County Museum at Enniskillen Castle has reopened after undergoing a £3.5 million redevelopment. Enniskillen Castle, situated beside the River Erne in County Fermanagh, was built almost 600 years ago by Gaelic Maguires. Guarding one of the few passes into Ulster, it was strategically important throughout its history. In the 17th century it became an English garrison fort and later served as part of a military barracks. This historic site houses two museums, Fermanagh County Museum and The Inniskillings Museum and Fermanagh Visitor Information Centre. Opening Hours Monday to Friday (all year round): 9.30am* - 5.00pm Saturdays (all year round): 11.00am - 5.00pm Sundays (Jun to Sept): 11.00am - 5.00pm Bank Holidays - 9:30am* - 5:00pm Closure period - Enniskillen Castle will be closed over the Christmas & New Year holiday period. *9.30am opening for new visitor centre and 10:00am for other buildings Admission

The newly opened Museum at Enniskillen Castle is such a vast improvement over the old museum. Great quality exhibits in bright modern surroundings. Don't miss the Regimental Museum on the other side of the court yard when you are there. A great day out for all the family.

Great history of the area and of the local regiment and military history. There is a small cafe onsite, and the genealogy center is there.

The Enniskillen Castle plays a part in the Presentation of the Enniskillen Museums which are located in the Centre of the Town with free parking and close to the Bus Station. The history of the Castle is explained within the Museums. The Castle and Museums are well worth a visit but set aside at least 3 Hours to complete viewing.

I'm glad you enjoyed your visit to our newly refurbished site. There was free admittance during the recent Discover Fermanagh Open Weekend. There is, however, usually a small charge giving visitors admittance to two Museums and the historic Castle grounds. The new Visitor Centre at the Castle entrance is free and includes the Visitor Information Centre, an award-winning cafe, shop,... More
