We paid £6.50 for adult and £4.50 per child for a 45 min tour of a genuine forest free mine.led by a genuine Forest of Dean free miner and Verderer. We started at the lamp room and were kitted out with helmets and lamps. We were given a background to mining customs in the Forest of Dean and the rights... More

Experience black as you have never experienced it before. Travel back thousands of years. Travel back millions of years. You get fully kitted out and go to the pit entrance to start your tour which is a mix of horrible histories and time team. It's terrific.

We happened across this Colliery when looking for something else. Firstly while waiting for our tour to start we partook in refreshments in the cafe. Lovely homemade broccoli soup and my partner had homemade caramel shortbread - both much enjoyed in a clean well run establishment, Then we had our tour which we were lucky in that we were the... This place was fantastic! Ritchie was knowledgable, interactive, an amazing guide and answered any questions we had The mine itself was really fascinating and really made you realise what it would be like as a miner. If your in the area make sure you fit this in

Today we had a great visit to the Hopewell mine, exploring deep under the Forest of Dean. The visit was really interesting to see a working mine and helped by a really knowledgeable guide. Even Alfie our dog had a warm welcome and was looked after (well he slept) whilst we went down the mine. Hopewell also has a lovely... More

Stumbled across this place by chance. Our guide Rich was really knowledgeable and answered all our questions. We really enjoyed going down into the mine, fascinating and interesting to learn so much we didn't know about mining. When we got to the bottom we turned off all of our torches to experience utter and total darkness - it was a... More

Had a great time down the mine with Rich; a knowledgeable and friendly man who speaks well about the mine. Just mind your head on the way down!

We took our visiting daughter and grand daughters aged 13 and 9 to Hopewell Colliery today. They really enjoyed the tour given by Rich and learned loads about freemining. We sat in the newly opened and very friendly cafe with the baby who was too small to take into the mine. The cafe is great, offering a full range of... More

Popped here for lunch with my grandparents and the service was excellent. Generous portions and well presented food. The place is very nicely decorated and very clean. Will be eating here regularly now.

This attraction shows mining in the forest of dean and one gets an experience of going into a mine. Learn what freeminers are and this is still a working mine. The colliery cafe is a gem for eating and would be ideal for parties and evening meetings as well. Prices are reasonable and a good selection on the menu. The... More
