Situated overlooking Lake Windermere with stunning views over the lake this house is a 'must' visit. Built by a Mnachester brewer as a holiday home. It is a superb example of Arts and Crafts design and craftsmanship.

We didn't know much about the house other than having read the leaflet prior to visiting. We were pleasantly surprised by the house as a whole, the detail in its decoration and the wonderful views across the lake. The wisteria looks lovely and the gardens...More

This has been on our list for some time and is a beautiful Baillie Scott design with everything "beautiful and useful". There are strong Elizabethan references, particular in the hall with the minstrels gallery, the use of wood and designs and motifs which are reflected...More

If I had to recommend one attraction in the Bowness on Windermere area then this would definitely be it. We had fairly muted expectations, but some of the rooms simply took our breath away. I certainly disagree with the reviewer who wanted more furniture, in...More

If you like Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Arts and Crafts design and architecture Blackwell is worth a visit. It's set high on a hill overlooking Windermere in the English Lake District and on a sunny day you can sit in the gardens and watch the...More

The house looks lovely from outside and inside it is an Arts and Crafts gem. Sadly though there is little furniture in the house and therefore it felt just like a shell, with very little atmosphere. Others have mentioned the white room which overlooks the...More

Lovely house to look around, but it wont take you long! Nice cafe and seating in the garden. If you are a fan of Arts and Crafts you will love it.

Despite being enamoured with the Arts and Crafts movement over many years for some inexplicable reason I only found out about Blackwell fairly recently. I am so glad I did. It is in the most gorgeous setting and is an utter pleasure to explore, both...More

This is a gem of a house set in the countryside over looking the lake, what a view. The house must be the best example of Arts & Crafts I have ever seen. Easy room is different and a pleasure to walk around, but the...More
