A lovely little theatre which includes a cinema. There's a small cafe inside serving food and drinks and a snack stall downstairs in the cinema area which is all very reasonably priced, unlike other cinemas and theatres. What I like about the venue is they never have any of the merchandise relating to the show you are seeing unlike other... More

I have frequented many of the cafés in Durham but I have to say that the Gala is a standout favourite of mine. Not only because the toilet and cafe are on the same level which saves my joints (unlike SOME cafes in Durham like, I won't name and shame) but because of the friendly and warm service I always... The Gala Theatre is probably the best theatre in the North East - sure there are bigger ones at Sunderland and Newcastle but for the welcome, the comfort, the sight lines and the sheer experience I don't think Durham can be beaten. I have seen many productions here, especially their in house panto, and have never had anything other than... More

fabulous venue within walking distance of town centre and easy to get to by public transport in region. Fab venue for shows and cinema surrounded by restaurants and bars within close proximity.

Had a great night at the Gala to see Elkie Brooks. The theatre is quite intimate and the show was excellent. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Screens are small. Way too over priced and greedy. Most trending films aren't actually seen here. Better off going to Cineworld in Dalton Park.

Visited with a group of girls. We were in screen 2, which is the smaller of the two. Felt very intimate and cosy. Say in front but didn't feel like the screen was on top of you. Only complaint was the laminated floor which was noise when people went to the loo. Could do with carpet.

It's brilliant to have such a great little cinema in central Durham, within easy access for most students. I know some people have complained about the small size of Screen 2, but honestly it's not a problem in the slightest - I saw "Denial" yesterday in there, and at no point did I feel that the screen was too small....
