Affectionately dubbed the "Mother Road," this 2,400-mile route was the first all-weather, continuously paved highway linking Chicago and Los Angeles. The storied path is legendary for spawning America's signature roadside architecture and attractions, vestiges of which remain today.

We drove the Arizona and California portions of Route 66 and had a wonderful time. Some of the highlights included: 1) Kingman, Arizona - We went to the Route 66 Museum, Mohave Museum, and other sites. There is also a nice Route 66 diner in Kingman, as well as distilleries and wineries. 2) Oatman, Arizona - We drove the Sitgreaves... More

We've been on just about every stretch of 66 from the Midwest to California. Last week we drove a 300+ mile stretch of state route 99 (notice the irony of the upside down 66) in CA. And mile for mile, it seems that there are more quirky things to do along 99.

Seligman AZ is a revived Route 66 bypassed town reminiscent of "Radiator Springs" from the movie "Cars". Seligman is a major tourist stop en route to Grand Canyon for German, French and Italian tour buses. It has colorful route 66 memorabilia shops with busy sales counters and a not too pricey excellent comfort food (German and American) restaurant --Westside Lilo's... More

Completed Route 66 over 3 weeks with my wife and thought it was fantastic. Far too much to review as we drove over 3000 miles but that included a side trip to the Hoover Dam and Las Vegas. We stuck to the original Old 66 as far as possible. To do this we down loaded American maps on to our... More

An Internet website called Baby Boomer Radio/Radio Route 66 (babyboomerradio.com) plays music from the ‘50s/’60s and touts the Mother Road as “the United States’ Largest Theme Park.” And yes, there is plenty to see and do in the towns and roadside attractions along what remains of the 2451-mile highway (and associated interstate highways), yet I find myself looking for the... My family of 5 recently dropped into Williams on our way to The Grand Canyon. We found it a great Route 66 themed town with a lot of memorabilia. We had lunch in Cruiser's 66 Cafe. Great spot with large meals. Adjoining the cafe is a great store selling all things Route 66 and Americana. Plenty more great shops to... More
