Okay, it's very striking and I'm sure it has fantastic artistic merit. But it is totally out of character with my impression of Ilfracombe. But maybe that's just me?

Damian Hirsts statue is most unusual and a sight not to be missed as it towers over the harbour side

Another thought provoking Damion Hurst piece of art. It's stands over the harbour and is unmissable. It's a good job there is a plaque with an explanation of what it represents as I would never have guessed.

A drive around the sites of Ilfracombe we came across, in the harbour, Verity. It was news to us as we hadn’t googled the area. But what a surprise. A 66ft bronze by Damien Hirst. The figure says it all so I won’t go into...More

I was surprised by my reaction to the statue. I saw it from the 'car park entrance' side, and found it extremely dramatic. It has immense impact, and the workmanship and design is faintly awe-inspiring. It also looks extraordinary against the painterly green cliffs over...More

Ive always thought that Hirsts "art" is bit of " The King Is In The Altogether" . As a construction piece ,this is quite impressive . I dont think it would have been commissioned if the artist was an unknown. But it does cause opinions

We visited ilfracombe and parked in the car park where Verity is positioned (we didn't know the statue was there). It's interesting to read about the artists idea behind Verity. Personally I don't particularly like the statue, one side Verity has skin and the other...More

I totally agree with everything that you have said on this disgusting eye sore. What were they thinking ! It does not go with the surroundings , something like this would look better in some arty museum or in the city . Putting up a huge statue of a seagul would have made more sense than this verity statue !! Dumb or what ! ! !

A seagull? Better a giant pastry
What exactly is the meaning of the statue? I personally think it's a monstrosity and is totally not in keeping with the village. A statue of a fisherman or lifeboat man would have been more approprate. Roll on the next 9yrs when it can be taken down and tipped over the harbour wall into the sea.
