- PeterSTours, France13 contributionsWell worth a visitThis was a truly interesting experience with knowledgeable guides who brought it to life. We took our grandchildren aged 8 and 11 and although they were initially not overly enthusiastic they soon became fascinated by what life was like in Tudor times and we were there much longer than we had thought. Woud definitely recommend a visitVisited August 2023Travelled with familyWritten 9 October 2023
- llwyngwernCarmarthen, United Kingdom41 contributionsOld TenbyWell worth a visit. The interior is well preserved and all the rooms have authentic (not original) type furniture. The staff are superb and have plenty of time for inquisitive children and more enlightened adults. Give yourself up to an hour to view and follow the children as they go on their own treasure trail.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 17 October 2023
- Cath BCoalpit Heath, United Kingdom160 contributionsWorth a visitWhile in Tenby we decided to check out this property. As its owned by the N.T and we're members, it was free admission but for non members, it was only £6.50 entry. This property is not open every day, so please check website. We visited on a Thursday and were one of the first entries through the door. It got busy very quickly. The property is small inside and spread out over 3 floors. There really isn't lots to see in there but you get a good feel of how they lived in those past times. I would still say it's worth visiting, after all it's a 15th century tudor property with wonderful architecture and original features. Good to pass an hour wandering around. The staff are knowledgeable and have some good stories to tell.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 23 October 2023
- N DLincolnshire, United Kingdom1,496 contributionsSmall but InterestingWe visited as we were NT members. I’m not sure it would be worth paying to see as the house is made up of just 3 rooms and a small herb garden. We also had to queue to enter as they were operating a one-in-one-out system. Rooms are well laid out with reproduction furniture. There is plenty of information and staff are enthusiastic.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 27 October 2023
- AlnLesLlangorse, United Kingdom252 contributionsInteresting Look Back in TimeWhat an interesting National Trust property that you must visit when visiting Tenby. We visited in March 2024. The house is full of surprises that illustrate its use throughout the years. Really helpful Trust guides on every floor. 10/10Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 25 March 2024
- Heathsr11185 contributionsGreat little find into Tenby's Tudor historyWe visited with our National Trust membership. The house is only very small (it took us about 30 minutes) but we are pleased we went as it gave us an insight into Tudor life at Tenby and the guides were on hand to tell us interesting facts. The house was well laid out. Only a few pieces of furniture in the bedroom were original, but it was good to have a look around.Visited August 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 9 August 2024
- Iman321276 contributionsInteresting way to while away an hourInteresting house - a glimpse back in time. Friendly and informative room guides. Sympathetic reconstruction of rooms with reproduction furniture. I Enjoyed the tiny little enclosed yard - complete with herb bedVisited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 16 September 2024

This is a small property tucked away in an alley, but it is excellent and really interesting.
The history of the house is bound up with the development of Tenby and so there is much more to this than just the building.
The visit included a guided tour which was very informative and captured your intereest.
Also engaging was the small herb garden to the rear. A ral triumph in termns of growing a wide variety of plants in a very small area.
Numbers are limited, so you need to book ahead.

Good presentation, and an interesting place to visit, with items well explained. A delightful small Tudor house, which gave one an understanding of what life might have been like centuries ago. It was worth it just to see the look of horror on children’s faces on learning that Tudors slept sitting up and that any visitors would share the same (exceedingly small bed) with the rest of the family - only the baby looked likely to get a decent night’s sleep! There were many items that visitors were encouraged to touch. The children’s toys were particularly popular…. and not necessarily confined to those still at school - lost count how many goes it took to get the ball into the small cup ….but I succeeded (eventually!). The staff there really knew their stuff, and were clearly very happy to share their knowledge.

This National Trust property is a little gem. Hidden away in the streets of the old town it's easy to find as there are plenty of signs. There's no parking at the house but there are plenty of public car parks close by.
There were three ladies working there when we visited and they were all excellent. They kept visitors in small groups and ushered us round the house so nowhere got crowded. They explained to us what life would have been like and really brought the house to life for us. Even the lady tending the herbs and plants knew what they were all for and how they were used. Despite the lousy weather outside we thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Tudor Merchants House.

We visited when there was free entry for the Open Doors event as we were in Tenby for my birthday. The staff were friendly and the house is well laid out with snippets of information on boards or printed on cushions. Although the house is quite small it wasn't crowded and had a charming atmosphere.

Fantastic place to visit with a rich history and interesting areas in different floors to explore. The guides are incredibly knowledgeable and we learnt a lot about the house and the time period. We were away with my son (he’s nearly three) and can get a little fidgety like toddlers do! But the ladies were amazing at keeping him busy and getting him to help with things in their talks. This was lovely so thank you and i would recommend.
