We visited the Wallace Monument after we did the Sterling Castle tour. Views from the top of the monument are fantastic and are worth the 260 (or were there more...) stairs to the top. Got to see Braveheart's sword too which was nice

This is a place that must be seen. Must be able to walk in order to see the inside of this monument. The walk through Abbey Craig on the way down walk lush and beautiful. The views from the top were awe inspiring.

Visited the Wallace Memorial but did not go close to it. Lovely place where it is situated in. Surroundings fantastic.

We arrived around 4pm when they close at 5, so we luckily got a shuttle up the winding road to the monument, otherwise I don't think we would have made it in time. It is definitely worth seeing the top view, and each landing you...More

I had a short stay in Stirling and climbed the Wallace Monument. I got there just after it opened and chose to climb the hill rather than wait for the courtesy bus. Fairly steep path but I made it. It was still very quiet. I...More

It is a must see as it is on the top of Abbey Craig Hill. The Tower honours Scottish hero Sir William Wallace. There is a shuttle bus that takes you to and from the tower or you can walk. It is not bad walking...More

If your claustrophobic or suffer from vertigo, I'd advise against going up to the top. Still, it's a stunning view, so take that into consideration.

We were not expecting the Monument to be so big! The weather was rainy but made the trees & undergrowth very green. A beautiful walk up to the Monument from the visitor center. We decided not to pay the fee to climb the hundred plus...More

Get ready for a climb if you decide to take the spiral staircase up to the top. It's worth it, as you will get a 360 degree view of Stirling, Stirling Castle and the fields and countryside. Take your time getting down as it is...More

The monument is very impressive, we got a minibus up to it which runs constantly if you don't want to climb the hill. As there are over 200 steps to climb to the top viewing point, we decided to take in the view from the...More

246 steps? I keep reading "it is worth the climb". I am confused exactly what you are climbing? I see some posts say you can take a shuttle. Do you have to climb to see the displays of the monument or the sword? I am a little out of shape and claustrophobic. Will this climb be difficult?

Hi Laurajsi, You climb the spiral staircase inside the actual monument/castle. These aren't very spacious however there is about 3 floors where you can take a break from the stairs and go into the exhibition rooms. You... More
