The northern home of the National Museum of the Royal Navy. A fascinating journey through time, set in an authentically-created historic quayside of the 1800s. Experience Fighting Ships, a powerful insight into the tough lives of sailors from around the time of Admiral Lord Nelson and the Battle of Trafalgar. Learn how they were press ganged and see what life was like on board HMS Trincomalee, the oldest warship still afloat in the UK and the jewel in the historic quayside of Hartlepool.

The museum is free entry. It provides an insight into the life of Mariners who resided and worked in and around Hartlepool. I did not board the Tall Ship, but was allowed to take photos. It boasts a very nice cafe on a very old paddle boat. It's very interesting and very well kept. Friendly staff throughout, good food. The... More

Arrived with a party of 11 people a lovely lady in period costume greeted us and explained the map and route for us to follow. Started with fighting ships exhibition which runs on the hour. Very well laid out by following lights in the floor only negative it does not give you time to move from one to the next... More

Visited the Maritime Experience and the Museum of Hartlepool with its particularly poignant World War One exhibition. We were impressed with everything, there is so much of interest you need three hours plus if you want to look at everything in detail. The quayside and ships are fascinating, and the exhibition about their preservation. The Hartlepool Museum is a real... More

Lovely people. You can put up with anything if you have lovely people. I turned up at 2.40pm, not realising winter hours meant a 4pm close. The welcome was lovely, I was charged local rate so saved some money because I wouldn't have so long inside (note to management: don't hold that against your staff, it's brilliant use of initiative),... Fabulous weekend in a wonderful setting Staff were very friendly and all the museums were open including the two ships. Can recommend a family visit here. Plenty of displays and something to interest everyone. Never visited Hartlepool before Interesting town. Planners have Done their best to keep old 'feel' of the town, despite heavy traffic and the usual retail outlets.

Just got home from Hartlepool's Folk Festival in this great venue. I'd like to say a big thank you to all the staff at The Maritime experience for helping the festival to go with a swing. They were unfailingly good natured, even when it rained and the cafe was heaving with happy diners, singers, musicians and even Morris dancers giving... More

Visited with my father in law and eldest son for our yearly tour around the country. Loved the day and great value for money. Tour of the ship was great and it was great to go below decks.

Definitely worth a visit. Must tour the trincamalee which has been restored to perfection. Buy the return ticket, for a couple of pounds extra it is definitely worth a return visit. A fabulous restoration, well done!!

We visited at about 3.00pm and it was really too late in the afternoon to be able to see everything. We did not realised there is such a lot to see. There are two timed sessions - Fighting Ships (every hour) and Press Ganged (every half hour). We only managed to see the Fighting ships one. We started our visit... More
