Great experience!
Jul 2021
Charming place, amazing wines. Very interesting explanation given about the family history, the terroir and the variety of cultivated grapes. The wine testing was Okay, only one point to suggest is to change the glasses between the white and red wines.
I recommend this place.

Awesome history and wine experience
Nov 2019 • Couples
This place has a great and inspiring story. The grape field is very beautiful, as the property. Its very big and very well.decorated with fine arts and parts of all over the world. The tour for the factory is very well prepared and very pleasant.
There are two tours. One more simple and the Cave tour. Definitely,go for the cave, its more expensive but very worthy, with the best wines and cheeses. We loved it.

Villa Francioni is unique!

What can I share about Villa Francioni winery?
If you never been in a winery before is a good and a bad starting point.
Good because the place, structure and staff are nothing but perfect introducing you to this new touristic option in Santa Catarina state.
Bad because if you visit them first, you'll find a higher standard level and any other winery will looks small :)
As the first one in the region to become famous, they carry on a bigger responsibility to keep themselves as a reference and they do it well.
Everything looks charming, since the entrance until the cave, and the guided tour teaches you a lot about the family history and the honors made with each wine produced.
A good place to go to sip and discover good options of altitude's wines.

Lovely Setting, Friendly Staff, Nice Wine
Apr 2017 • Couples
The setting is beautiful and rivals some of the pleasant chateaux in the S of France for its building and surrounds. Clearly it is a place built not merely on functionality but aesthetics and it succeeds in both.

The tour is rather short admittedly and was in Portuguese (not without reason obviously as I was the only non-native speaker) so it's difficult for me to comment on the content but the guide seemed knowledgeable and answered plenty of questions. And it isn't expensive at only R$30 (about £7.50) and the wine they serve is a good selection of whites, rosé (sparkling) and reds (and not only the cheap stuff either!) All the staff we met were very welcoming and friendly and made for a pleasant atmosphere.

It's a pity not to have tasted the Madonna-endorsed rosé as this is certainly the most well-known perhaps of any Brazilian wine and we bought a bottle anyway but had I been able to taste to determine if I liked it I might have bought a couple or more. Brazilian wine is certainly not cheap though so don't think you're going to be coming home with a cheap case of stuff, in comparison with the sort of wine you get from Chile it fares well on quality but poorly on cost as the flagship red is R$350 and I can get a very serious bottle of Margaux or Barossa Shiraz for that price.

If you go, disregard Google maps completely, it will take you on a road that is just a track (not uncommon in this part of the world) but is gated so you have to come all the way back.

Wine tasting at a beautiful place
Dec 2013 • Couples
The Villa is quite impressive. Beautiful landscape, gardens and building. The guided tour (R$30,00/ each) needs improvement if you are not there just for the wine tasting. I felt the lack of more technical information and interesting facts (historical furniture and arts). How interesting it would be if they had a bistrot or a restaurant to taste the wine with fancy food. I couldn't leave without bringing some rosés with me. If you are a wine enthusiast visiting the Serras Catarineses take some time to go to Villa Francioni at Sao Joaquim.

One of the 10 most charming wineries in the world!
Apr 2013 • Couples
We weren't expecting such a beautiful place in rural Santa Catarina state.
You have to make reservations for the guided tour, and it cost us R$ 30,00 each, and many surprises were waiting for us (and that's even having been to Concha y Toro winery in Chile). The huge building was built with great care for details, and the wine-making process uses gravity to transport the wine through the different phases, therefore there's no pumping (more quality). At the bottom of the building the cellar, built into the rocks, has a constant temperature of around 10°C/50°F, no matter how hot outside.
In the end there's wine tasting, and then you can use the R$ 30 paid earlier to buy their wine, which we of course did. Definitely one of the high points of our trip!
When the guide told us that they were voted one of the 10 most charming wineries in the world, we couldn't disagree!

Wine tasting in Villa Francioni just outside Sao Joaquim Serra Catarinense, Santa Catarina, Brazil.
Apr 2013 • Couples
Wine tourism in Brazil is an amazing experience! Having visited Villa Francioni just outside Sao Joaquim. Villa Francioni located at 1400 meters above sea level, and the wine is very good and their rose wine is absolutely fantastic! Call for reservation and get a guided tour of the winery and wine tasting. Villa Francioni has a fantastic history!
