We loved the tour; short and sweet, informative without too many details to make it boring for the kids. Then we all dug and searched for the perfect pieces of amethyst to wash, weigh, and take home. The entry fee and cost of the raw...More

We had a fantastic time! It was so hard to decide which pieces we picked to take home as we were able to find a lot of great amethyst. I found a decent sized piece that now sits on the bookshelf as a wonderful reminder...More

Thank you for your review and for letting us know that you had a great time and found something for your bookshelf. It can take some effort to find that special amethyst, but it is worth the effort. Thunder Bay amethyst does make a wonderful...More

I would not recommend this place with your kids. A fee for a menial guide tour, they don't take you inside the mine. Just for a ridiculous intro you end up paying 32$ and they add 3$ per pound for a collection of raw material...More

Thank you for posting Naz, we do appreciate your feedback. The amethyst mine is actually an open quarry that visitors can view from an observation deck on the top. Due to safety concerns, we can't let anyone into the mine who doesn't have the proper...More

Expensive, seen nothing... Amethyst shop at the entrance. To get in you have to pay $8/person, then you end on a scarp pile where you can 'chose' from and pay by lbs on your way out. What a waste of time and money. Seen no...More

The first thing they made us do was a tour. It cost something like $6-8$. The tour is rather short . Then they turn you loose on their pile of rocks. The cynically part of me wonders if they pick out all the good stuff...More

My husband and I were a little disappointed with not being able to hammer and chisel on the leftover rubble. Don't bother with taking the tools to this mine you can only shuffle through the loose stuff but there was plenty of amethyst laying around.

We took a drive out to the Amethyst Mine last week so we could pick our own pieces of amethyst up. It was fun and interesting to see all the different shapes and sizes that were available.
