It was such an unusual day that it should not be forgotten. The grave nearby show that the death and destruction started again only too soon. In these troubled times we should all try harder to work with what we have and enjoy life.

This was part of an afternoon 3 hour Salient tour found in the British Grenadier Bookshop. To hear the story of the Christmas truce and then to stand on the sight where it happened sends shivers through your body. What the soldiers went through and...More

I was very pleased to have visited and seen this location. I remember hearing about what happened here when I was a child. Humanity between both foes for a precious short time. It's a great shame that they didn't continue the motion on a permanent...More

A lot of people think that the Christmas Truce football match is a myth, it's not and this location explains it. It's certainly worth a visit to see the memorial and the reconstruction of the trenches.

This memorial commemorates the site of the place where, during the Christmas truce of 1914, soldiers from opposing sides sang together and joined in an impromptu "game" of football. When WWI started everyone assumed it would be over by Christmas. It wasn't. The humanity lasted...More

This is here the Germans and English flipped the birdie to their commanding officers and told that that they didn't actually want to kill each other anymore and instead played a game of soccer. Unfortunately the commanders put the heavy on them and they ended...More

There are actually 3 things to see here. Khaki Chums Cross The cross marks the spot where the football match was played at the 1914 Christmas truce. A simple cross with an explanation. Moving and interesting FIFA Memorial This is a recent addition with some...More
