Long car-driving - less pause. And then heavily pain in the lower back and a doctor in Kawhia who refused to give an injection. But on our next stop in Turangi we found the Tokaanu Thermal Pools. Two lovely, sympathetic ladies at the reception (Thank you so much. I will never forget you!) lead us in one of the private... More

The pools have a choice of private and public baths. For $10 you can go in the private mineral baths and follow it with the public baths which is essential a warm swimming pool.It is $6 for the public baths alone. Note it is not a spar and is quaint/showing its age but we loved it. It was great value for... More

We visited as we were in the area to go for a soak in one of the private thermal pools, which although a littler In down is excellent value for money. The added attraction is the 20 minute walk through the bush where you will see bubbling hot springs, dull fur pools and bubbling mud at really close proximity. Not... More

Great experience in the private thermal pools. Interesting woodland walk to see the source of the hot water. Good $10 worth. Would visit again and recommend it to others. Very helpful and friendly staff.

Locally run, unassuming and cheap. A great place to relax the muscles under the open sky after a day walking or adventuring around. 5mins from Turangi and easy to find with loads of parking. Go spend 20 mins soaking in the thermal hotpools. Private rooms are cheap and chill.

We always visit the hot pools when we are in the area The staff are lovely The pools were busy and we had a short wait on each visit The pools are a little run down which is a shame We were told that DoC is handing the pools back to the local Iwi and hopefully they will refurbish the... More

We opted for the public pool. This was our second visit within a month. It is cheap and cheerful. Friendly helpful staff and not busy on this recent visit. Yes it is cheap. Yes it is not a day spa or resort. It is what it is and the 20 minute walk is a must do considering it is free... More

Found these low key hot pools while staying at the Braxmere Lodge just down the road. Kiwiana hot pools at their best. Not flash, not fancy, but lovely, warm and the outside pools under a clear, NZ chilly winter sky were amazing. If you want an authentic Kiwi hot pool experience, look no further. A+++

Took the kids as there is a small pool for the younger kids and a bigger pool for the grown ups. No lifeguards but you have to watch your kids even when they are at pools. Really warm pool so dont go expecting to move around too much. Had a cold water drinking fountain to cool yourself down. Clean complex... More

Just like a school pool with hot water in it, but quiet as off the beaten track, also a walk next door around the bubbling mud
