Paul Cluver Wines is located in the cool-climate Elgin Valley. This family-run winery has roots that go back four generations. Recognised as pioneers of wine in the area, the focus is on producing elegant wines that are expressive of the terroir. The winery forms part of larger holistic farming business called 'De Rust Estate'. In addition to the vineyards and cellar, there are apple and pear orchards, a Hereford stud and eco-tourism activities, including amphitheatre concerts and mountain biking, on the farm. The estate forms part of the UNESCO world heritage site, the Kogelberg Biosphere. Half of the estate has been set aside for conservation into perpetuity.

A close friend tried to re-introduced me to Riesling. So off we go to visit Paul Cluver as they are the only manufacturers of this wine in our surrounds. We really were looking forward to a stunning outing. Although the Riesling we tasted was really superior and can be recommended, what a dissapointment our whole wine tasting experience was with... I have always experienced and associated Paul Cluver wines with sophistication and quality wines. The tasting experience was very disappointing: although the staff was friendly, their knowledge on their own wines was horrible. They also had very little to no stock of their own product.

It is a beautiful wine area. The gardens looked beautiful. I really wanted some apple brandy but instead got some great wines! The lady was friendly and helpful.

First time visit on Sunday. We walked up through to the restaurant entrance - the workers looked at us like we had the wrong address. It took a lot of effort of the waiters to inform us they were fully booked. Thankfully so - I can't possibly stoumach having to look at their long faces for longer than 2 minutes.... More

We booked a wine tasting at Paul Cluver and when we arrived we're met by the Sales Manager, Shaun, who instead of giving us a tasting at the tab,es, asked if we'd like a tour of the winery, which meant jumping in his car, which we were more than happy to do. He drove us around the farm, explained all... More

Arrived at the small, unassuming wine tasting cottage to be met by the old black dog that has become this winery's mascot. Paul himself greeted us and gave us a fantastic wine and chocolate tasting. The Malbec was our favorite and we ended up purchasing a few for later. It's laid back, country style, and we're looking to visiting again... More

Hi Robyn, Thanks for your great review. I do however, think you were at Paul Wallace and not Paul Cluver. Paul Wallace make a great Malbec. I will let Paul and Nikki know you enjoyed your visit to there estate. Please let me know if you are ever in Elgin again, I would love to host you for a tasting.... More

At the end of a long mountain hike we needed refreshment and this is what we got at Paul Cluver Wines. We were very fortunate in that Paul Cluver himself greeted us and then proceeded to show us the wine making and storage facilities. This made what might otherwise have been a fairly impersonal visit special for us.

We were very fortunate to get a personal tour from the owner of the family-run business, Dr. Paul Cluver himself. His passion for the wine the estate produces, and his mission to deliver a product that is unique to wine lovers makes this vineyard stand out. We learned that the Elgin Valley is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Biosphere... More
