About
Ten minutes from Blaye and its world renowned citadelle (on the World Heritage UNESCO list), Château MONCONSEIL-GAZIN is among the oldest wine buildings in the area. The estate is located on one of the best sites on the limestone escarpment of Blaye - the hill above the village of Plassac. The proximity to the Gironde Estuary, clay/limestone soils, and free-draining, south-facing slopes all combine to make a beneficial microclimate for maturing their grapes. The combination of great terroir and meticulous winemaking produces wines of a consistently high quality year after year, recognised by a long track record of awards. The estate founded in 1894 is now run by Jean-Michel Baudet, a 5th generation winemaker, and his wife Françoise, who are deeply committed to the quality of their wines, as well as to the promotion of the wines in the region of Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux.

Had a lovely tour and tasting with Audrey. We took our 10 month old baby with us and they provided some toys for him to play with which was a lovely touch. Audrey’s English was fantastic and she and everyone we met were very friendly with a very warm welcome.

This winery is amazing. They welcome you like you’re part of the family and have you try all sorts of wine, which are really good. Go visit, buy their wine, my wife and I highly recommended it.

We hd an enjoyable and educational tour of the vineyards and some of the chateau. Our host was welcoming and very knowledgeable. We had the tour to ourselves and she started as soon as we arrived. We had booked in advance.
This is one of the smaller houses but has an interesting history. It is organic and we were told how changes are being made for the future to account for the the changing climate which needs grapes with thicker skins.
The wine tasting is generous. The wins are very good and we left with a couple of cases:-)

Beautiful winery with a gracious hosts. Francoise was so nice and did a great job of explaining the wines and the region they are growing them in. We loved the Grand Reserve wine and we were able to order a case to ship home.

Four of us had a lovely couple of hours doing the the wine and cheese pairing experience. Emailed in advance and received helpful advice from Audrey (whose English is excellent) to improve our visit.
It was a scorching hot day so took advantage of the cool in the cellar. We bought several bottles of their excellent wine and was pleasantly to see it featured in The Wine Society magazine when we returned to the UK.

Five of us enjoyed a delightful afternoon with Françoise and Audrey. An interesting cellar tour and a delicious cheese and wine workshop - so memorable! They are so friendly and welcoming, and the Château’s wines are excellent. We look forward to seeing them again.

I visited with my husband and son having phoned ahead to organise an English speaking tour. It is a beautiful and well maintained site and we received a warm welcome. It was just the right length of tour and gave us a good flavour for the wine making process and how the vines are cared for. The wine tasting was good with each of the wines discussed and all were good; it purely comes down to personal taste. More in depth tours are available but if you want a great overview of the workings of a vineyard and one where there is certainly a investment in the products then this is really worthwhile. Thanks for a great visit.

We were looked after by Francoise Baudet who showed us the vines, the winery, their big barrel store and then we had a tasting of all the wines. Francoise speaks good English and made us feel very welcome, whilst explaining how they use sustainable viticulture to protect the environment, and how they make their wines. The tasting at the end was a highlight too - both white and red wines in different styles. The Grand Reserve wine is not to be missed.

We visited with a tour group and were greeted as if we were old friends. Ms. Baudet was an excellent communicator and a wonderful spokesperson for the chalet. Her presentation was informative and seemed more than just an often-repeated spiel. She was beautifully interactive when questions were posed. Although we are not wine sophisticates, this was one of the best of the winery visits on our tasting tour.

This Chateau came recommended and not knowing anything, we just walked in an hour before their closing time. Francoise and her husband received us graciously and spent time with us explaining their history, wine making and the different wines of the Bordeaux area. She spoke excellent English and we shared stories about our families and our love for wine.

We would highly recommend anyone going to Bordeaux to visit this Chateau.

Oh and we loved their wines and wish we could've brought more back with us to the US.
