beautiful and unspoilt
Sep 2019
The lake is one of the biggest vulcanic lakes in Europe. The water is crystal clear, and even though it is very deep, the temperature is nice for swimming. At Bolsena town there is a small beach wich a parking lot and a small harbor. There are also a few restaurants and cafe's on the lakeshore. Most of the time, it is peaceful and quiet, which is great for a huge swimming pool in a warm climate. The town of Bolsena is also well worth a visit and an extra reason for visiting the area.

Bolsena is a charming town on the tranquil lake of Bolsena
Sep 2019
Great location to explore nearby villages and towns, worth taking a drive round the whole lake. Bolsena has a great selection of good restaurants and local shops, it was busy but not crowded in late September. Climb up to the castle (it’s a short walk but quite steep) for a spectacular view of the lake.

Beautiful lake in a stunning location
Jul 2019 • Couples
Having never been to Italy before, this was certainly what we envisioned Italy to be. Tranquility, hills and stunning views. The lake was beautiful and a great way to cool down in the heat! We would definitely return!

Peaceful Sunday Afternoon at the Lake
Jul 2019 • Couples
My husband and I spent the afternoon exploring the area around Lago Bolsena. As we traveled around the lake we noticed several restaurants and private beach areas where you could rent a chair and umbrella. We ended up stopping in Bolsena first.

Bolsena Tip: If coming in from the north end of town (Bolsena), there is a pay lot on the right as you enter town. Walk west and you will find a beautiful, tree lined street that leads to several cafes right on the water.

After spending several hours at a cafe, we traveled Capodimonte on the smaller roads. The closer we came to Capodimonte, the more we saw locals relaxing by the beach. We loved intermingling with local Italians vs. hordes of tourists.

Tips:
If you want to eat lunch at lakeside restaurant, plan to arrive before 2:30. We found out the hard way.

Rent a chair at one of the private beaches. They have restaurants and bathrooms. Bring bug spray.

Stunning gem

Recommended to visit here by our host in Orvieto. Wow! Can’t believe it wasn’t overrun with visitors. Very calm, beautiful historic quarter and charming lake front. Great wandering around. Charming to say the least. Italy just keeps throwing them up…
