My wife and I visited the Castello de Venere (Venus) in the ancient town of Érice during a two-week vacation in Sicily. Although it looks impressive from the outside, the inside of the castle is basically an open space surrounded by walls. There really is not much to see and in our view the entry fee of Euro 4 pp... The medieval Castello de Venere built over an ancient Temple of Venus , between 12th and 13th centuries . Breathtaking panoramic views from the mountain top (If no clouds) .

The parts on view inside are very ruinous with scant remains of earlier structures. None the less it is worth a look with a couple of interesting bits & awesome views. Though there are plenty of those here.

Very beautiful place. It is on top of the hill and there us a good road to get there by car. Very nice little town and very much historical sites.

Sicily uses more concrete than nearly any other region in Europe so its great to come across a hill top town that is devoid of this ghastly building material. Set high in the countryside of western Sicily with marvelous views (if the clouds allow it), choose a time when the tourists are thin on the ground- better still stay overnight(s)... More

The castle and its ruins are nice but the views of the surrounding area are wonderful. My son loved exploring the winding passages and hidden nooks of the castle. His portents loved the view. What a great visit.

This was a treat! The staff, owners, and the Sicilian fare were equally appealing. We had tried a few restaurants in Erice. This was the best. Indulge yourself.

Erice was beautiful! Somehow our gps directed us up the crazy steep, nail biting switchback trail up the mountain... when we got to the top we discovered that there was a much more civilized road to take up & down the mountain! We loved the cobble stone paths throughout the quaint town and enjoyed wandering around through all the little... More
