Good standard of food and service.

Several calls over the years withy several different owners. This pub is now providing good straightworward dishes without frills but of excellent quality and value for money, so whats not to like?

Just had a lovely roast dinner here today. Choice if chicken or lamb.
The food was really tasty. Pudding too. A wonderful apple crumble and custard. Nice fire roaring. Relaxing atmosphere... Well done Charlie and Rachael.. and Nicki..

Lunchtime
Mar 2019 • Couples
After seeing the sign for The Cherry Tree on many occasions today we were able to pop in for lunch.
Although not a huge menu the food was delicious, it appeared to be freshly cooked and both the ham egg and chips and lasagne were hot, flavoursome and devoured.
All who we met were friendly and a warm welcome was had .
We will be back

Great to see food is back on. Had a couple of quite good lunches lately. Excellent Real Ales and some great real cider on just lately.

Great Village Pub

Great village pub, four Real Ales, a good drink selection. Friendly service. Sadly the kitchen was closed on the day of my visit.

What a find
Jun 2018 • Friends
My friend and I visited for the 1st time for lunch today. Neither of us knew anyone who had previously eaten here, so not sure what to expect.
We were a little unsure as we walked in, as the bar area felt to us like walking into an old fashioned city centre pub.
We were greeted warmly by the lady behind the bar. We explained we had booked for lunch, and were then greeted by a lady who appeared from the dining area.
As it was a Wednesday, we were offered the “Seniors Special” menu, but were assured we could look at the general menu too. I chose whitebait for my starter, expecting a small plate of 10 or so, but the quantity was over 30. My friend had prawns in garlic butter on toast. Both were delicious. I then had a beef suet pudding with perfectly cooked and seasoned veg, and my friend had oven baked cod with spinach, which she proclaimed as excellent. Full to the brim, we couldn’t manage one of the set puddings, but we were offered ice cream, which we duly tucked into. The waitress was just as you would wish, helpful, and personable. We were the only ones dining. This amazed us, as clearly folks don’t yet realise what an effort is being made here. The seniors menu is £10 for two courses, £12.50 for three - in our opinion an absolute steal.

Went with wife and kids ( 16, 10) , a warm welcome from the landlady and kitchen staff, good selection of lager and real ales, food was excellent, 2 roast dinners with plenty of good quality meat, 2 vegetarian dishes equally as good, so I was told,
superb deserts, will be going back again that’s for sure, lovely way to spend a couple of hours on a Sunday

Cosy pub atmosphere with a warm welcome

Like other reviewers, we have seen the Cherry Tree change hands over the years (although we are not that local) but it was great to see that it is in competent hands! Great beer, lovely fire, dog friendly and a good atmosphere. We had lunch there on Christmas Eve, each of us having a different choice from the menu and every meal was delicious. All freshly prepared and cooked, and served by a happy, smiling waitress. The prices are reasonable too! Looking forward to the warmer weather when we can sit in the lovely garden with our dogs........

Wot no sausages????

Yaxley Cherry Tree has been our "staggering distance" local for 8 years (and we do stagger sometimes!) The pub has had several tenants in that time since Andy the owner has moved on, the last of which was Russ......a proper old fashioned landlord who improved the decor and turned the pub into a much cosier, warmer place to be. Russ has now passed the reins onto Allie, a former member of the bar team. And a damn fine job she is doing so far.
No major changes but little tweaks. A few different ales although still too many GK ones IMHO. All well kept however. Towels in the gents! Now open at 4.00 pm on Friday afternoons although I'm not sure this is a good thing after our session last Friday! And a chef! It appears that chefs are in short supply around here but Allie has managed to secure the services of one who is producing good quality pub food.....all we want from our local.
I'm sure the garden will get more use next year as well and Allie is tentatively talking about a beer festival in February. Bringing the good times back.
The Cherry Tree used to jokingly be known as the "warm beer, grumpy landlord pub with stamps"......none of this applies today. more like a cosy and friendly village local. Just what we need in Yaxley.
Oh, the review title......unbelievable that the menu doesn't feature sausages with the huge amount of quality sausages in Suffolk. Could you serve me egg and chips (or mash and gravy) and I bring my own sausages?
