About
This Gothic church, built to celebrate the so-called Miracle of Bolsena (1263 AD,) contains the sacred corporale (altar cloth) that is locked in a huge, jewel-encrusted casket and a number of magnificent frescoes by the 14th-century painter Ugolino di Prete, which describes the miracle.

Orvieto is wonderful
May 2019
The duomo is wonderful and the two inner chapels are simply breathtaking. It is worth buying a combined ticket that allows you to go to several places for free. Exception is the archaeological museum, unfortunately. You should not miss the funicular, the easiest and most interesting way to get to the centro storico. The best porchetta is available at Il Negozietta, 5,5.- Euro with truffle cheese.

Beautiful Frescos
Apr 2019 • Couples
We were fortunate to be there during one of the times the Corporal of Bolsena could be viewed. It is displayed in a room where the walls and ceiling are beautifully frescoed.

Visiting in the afternoon was a plus since the tour groups had left and there was no crowd.

Orvieto Cathedral
Apr 2018 • Friends
We saw so many Cathedrals during our trip and this was just another one. The amazing thing is they are all worth visiting because of the incredibly beautiful artwork and architecture.
This one is right in town so it is hard to miss if you are walking around. Not generally crowded and very nice inside.

Great Find With Smaller Crowds Than Similar Locations
Apr 2018 • Business
Surprising find in a great location without the massive crowds seen in other locations. Small entrance fee, but well worth price. Don't miss the side chapels

Stunning to see in Person
Oct 2017
Orvieto is one of my favorite day trips I took from Rome. There are so many things to do but one of the most beautiful sight there is definitely seeing this chapel in person. It is located in a plaza that is not overly crowded and you can sit and stare at this building for few minutes...it will take your breath away...I highly encourage you to take a peak at this gorgeous building while in Orvieto.

Basically for believers in the miracle in Bolsena.
Feb 2017 • Family
The chapel is named after the altar`s cloth (Corporal), in which blood was shed during the miracle in Bolsena. It was difficult for modern man to understand the enthusiasm which was the motivation for the construction of this impressive Cathedral. The chapel of Corporale is particularly important for believers. If You truly believe that the miracle in Bolsena could happen, then come here. The rest of the chapel, Brizio for a meeting with Luca Signorelli and his magical "The Last Judgment". The ratio of visitors here and there clearly shows that most visits the Cathedral is yet for aesthetic reasons.

Beautiful
Oct 2017 • Friends
The Cappella del Corporate is a very special place. It is one of the reasons pilgrims visit Orvieto. Our group was able to have Mass in the chapel. Unfortunately the large reliquary which holds the corporal is no longer open for view. We were told it is only on view two or three times a year.

Cappella del Corporale

The Bloody cloth from the miracle was displayed here but had been moved---so we were unable to witness this miracle in person. But the experience of entering the area and feeling the energy inside was an amazing experience. The chapel is beautiful and we took some time to pray and reflect here.
