Orvieta's magnificent Duomo (cathedral) is considered one of the must-see churches in Italy for its stunning gold-and-mosaic Gothic façade and magnificent frescoes by Luca Signorelli, which had a great influence on Michelangelo's work in the Sistine Chapel.

We had a stop in orvieto to watch this magnificent duomo, on our way to France. Unfortunately it was closed. Orvieto deserves more time to be watched, we will come back

Beautiful Duomo in Orvieto
Sep 2019
The beauty of the art inside this cathedral is truly amazing, in a wonderful Etruscan hill town.
This is definitely worth the time spent.

Orvieto is an Etruscan town on the top of the hill. Distance from Rome 1h50min by train from Roma Termine station.
Ticket starts at €7,90 one way.
Very interesting place to visit if you are in Rome. Good restaurants, truffles and good olive oil produced locally.
Places to visit: Duomo di Orvieto, Pozo di San Patrizio, Museo Etrusco, Orvieto underground, Torre del Moro

A must see
Feb 2020
After a couple of months visiting Roman churches and cathedrals -- which have their own particular style -- you walk into the sober and somber interior of the Duomo di Orvieto and get a completely different experience. Then you see Luca Signorelli's fresco cycle of the end of the world, last judgment, etc. and your jaw drops. Impressive AND disturbing. Not to be missed. The facade, with its Book of Genesis, Tree of Jesse, etc. and bronzes of the Evangelists' spirit animals, is also stunning.

The Duomo is a must see. The exterior workmanship is breathtaking. Inside is just as amazing with original frescoes still present.

Amazing
Oct 2019
This was one of the amazing buildings we saw on our trip. From the location and the logistics of building it on top of a mountain to the wonderful carvings on the outside. A lot of time can be spent looking at all the detail

Breath Taking
Jan 2020 • Friends
This little town, on top of a mountain, hides a beautiful Duomo, mixing Gothic style and baroque. Outside is a wonder of architecture and inside a treasure! On the back of the church to you right, there is a small Capela called Capella di Dan Brizio, with the most interesting ceiling, full of afrescos showing parts of biblical story! Totally a must see, when in Orvieto!

Majestic Building
Sep 2019
Sit outside and admire. Then walk inside, it's jaw dropping in its opulence.
I wandered around soaking in each corner and area, really impressive building.
