Orvieta's magnificent Duomo (cathedral) is considered one of the must-see churches in Italy for its stunning gold-and-mosaic Gothic façade and magnificent frescoes by Luca Signorelli, which had a great influence on Michelangelo's work in the Sistine Chapel.

a not-to-miss sight in a gem of a tourist spot not too far from rome! Check out the alabaster windows.

An obvious must do in the area. Very impressive from the outside with an elaborate and attractive facade. Rather run down and surprisingly unimpressive and downbeat in significant areas inside. The duomo is badly in need of restoration in many parts. The Signorelli frescoes are...More

I was surprised by the unique look of this church the facade is beautiful with mosaics shimmering in the afternoon sun. They have pamphlets in the tourist office across from it where you can read about the scenes depicted. They also have benches so you...More

If you visit the Duomo in each of Florence, Siena, Pisa, and Orvieto, you will see similar design elements and beautiful artwork. All of them are outstanding. The famous altar cloth of the Miracle of Bolsena was on display in a side chapel. It might...More

After entering the Duomo today it was understandable why it took 300 years to build. The stonework on the exterior is also remarkable. The admission fee has been reduced to 4 euros

This is an amazing duomo, inside and outside. I highly recommend seeing it in the early morning light, sunset, and night when they have the lights on. Magnificent!

This church is in the main square of Orvieto. You take a funicular and then a bus to get to the church. There are side chapels with many detailed frescoes. Don't miss the miracle of Bolseno cloth on the left side of the church.

Beautiful duomo. If you go to Orvieto, you can pretty much skip all similar towns and churches. Beautiful church, great representative museums all around.

This is my second visit here. Several years ago there was no charge for admissions. Now it's five euros. Also the entire church is now emptying, no pews or chairs, less furnishings? Odd. Still amazing outside, so beautiful....

A trip to Umbria would not be complete without a visit to Orvieto and the beautiful Duomo. I don't think I have seen a more beautiful cathedral.
