Historic home needs some cleaning up and some signage. It's a long walk from the car park to the house and a climb once u get there.

We had a guide with us from Tauck, who told us about the house and about Napoleon's "stay" here. If you go on your own, I don't think you will learn much. The house is surprisingly small and simple; painted with pastels and flowery patterns, it seems very feminine. Except for Napoleon's bedroom, which is heavy with eagles and bronze... More

One would expect more. Hardly any background information about Napoleon on Elba. Rooms hardly with any furniture. When walking around, one cannot stop wondering " what am I suppose to see here". Don't do it with kids, they'll be bored in no time.

First impression: very few and insignificant road signs to this attraction. Thank God, somebody invented Google Maps! About 700 meters from the gps coordinates, there is an improvised road block and you understand that the parking on the left side of the road may have something to do with Napoleon Vila. From parking, first you get through an area of... More

It's a nice walk from the parking area to the Villa of San Martino. The entrance fee is €5,- for adults. The villa and fresco's have been renovated and completed with the original furniture. The furniture was lost when the villa was neglected for a long time, but they managed to get it back on antique markets. Don't forget to... More

Good to have been there and seen the villa, but nothing overwhelming. I would have expected a little more explanations - in English - on Napoleon and his stay on Elba.

Impressive residence, albeit quite sparse. There are 2 floors with the upper floor being visited by a winding path up hill and some stairs from the terrace. The path up to the house is a 10 minute walk from where the coach parked and the sight of the house which greets you through the iron gates, topped with eagles on... More

There were some very beautiful pieces of furniture which were examples of furniture from that period when Napoleon lived in the house and a few nice pieces of art on the wall. The garden and the view was nice, but there was very little written information about Napoleon in the museum.

Te house is lovely but they could keep it better. There is not much inside (quite empty) but the story and the gardens and the incredible view make up for that. We were the only visitors so it all seemed quite personal. Easy to imagine living there. I am glad we visited even though it was all a bit tired... More

An interesting estate. Glad we saw it as it was a port on our cruise. He was a most interesting person to say the least. The home and grounds are on a bluff with an beautiful view of the Med Sea. Many artifacts and memorabilia associated with Napoleon. The story of his exile is only enhanced by a visit to... More
